Hi Tanya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Tanya Shropshire and I am the creator of the global children’s character Scrizzie.
When I was 18 my first job out of high school was working for Aj Productions. We created and sold merchandise for famous stage plays and musical acts. Working behind the scenes really inspired me to get into the entertainment business. I’ve always had a big imagination and a fairy tale view of the world.
Scrizzie was birthed in my vision in 2007 and actually brought to life in 2008. Scrizzie’s purpose is to be a representation of all children no matter the background, culture, or status. Scrizzie started with school tour plays teaching children positive messages through acting, songs, and dance. Scrizzie has toured to more than 200 schools.
In 2010, Scrizzie took a much need break from touring. We have been using this time to revamp Scrizzie as well.
In 2021 Scrizzie released a children’s sing-a-long album titled “It’s Scrizzie”. Scrizzie’s music can be found on every musical platform.
We are also in pre-production for Scrizzie YouTube which will feature Scrizzie cooking, exploring new adventures, meeting new kids, and showing kids how to spread love and positivity.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Has the road been smooth? No, in fact, I embrace every bump and bruise. I started Scrizzie when I was 22 years old. Many people did not believe in my vision. Most people liked the idea but they could not see where this could lead.
I learned so much about myself and I taught myself how to write stage plays, music, and more. Once I had actual scripts I went back and presented it to potential partners and I was given an opportunity to tour and create some success for Scrizzie.
This brand continues to evolve as I evolve.
As you know, we’re big fans of Let A Kid Help. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
What should we know? Let a Kid Help represents one kid helping another kid. Scrizzie is our poster child for this very message. We have been involved with so many positive organizations like CHOA, March of Dimes, Chik fil a non-profit and more.
What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for? We are known for our character Scrizzie. Scrizzie is a tangible character that any child can relate to via Scrizzie Music, Shows, and Tours.
What sets you apart from others? Unlike most characters, Scrizzie does not represent any particular ethnic background. You can find his features in all races and cultures.
What are you most proud brand wise? I am proud of that we are still continuing our messages through the Scrizzie brand. Scrizzie music is continuing to thrive amongst children everywhere. We are excited for Scrizzie show that will offer a wide range of topics and fun for kids everywhere.
