Meet Daniel Luke of Stone Summit Climbing and Fitness in Midtown, Perimeter, and Kennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Luke.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Stone Summit was imagined and built to grow a community. Daron Pair, business partner, and I had seen again and again the positive impact climbing can have on individuals, groups, and the community in general. We wanted to build a facility, an experience, a culture that would bring people together as a community to share something for which we have so much passion.

It was clear to us that Atlanta had the potential to be a home to a vibrant and growing climbing community, as well as a focal point for the growth of youth climbing. Having traveled to climbing gyms all over the country to attend youth climbing competitions (as a coach and a parent, respectively), we knew the sport needed a venue in the US for national-level world-class youth climbing competitions if the sport was really going to grow.

With those goals in mind, we worked for two years on the planning, design, and construction of Stone Summit Atlanta. In June of 2010, we opened our doors and the adventure really began.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are stresses that have cropped up over the years. Most of them are self-inflicted due to wanting to always be better than the last day. And time management between work and home is something that needs time to adjust too. In the long run, our customers have always been there to lift the climbing community up.

Please tell us about Stone Summit Climbing and Fitness.
Stone Summit is known for being one of the largest climbing gyms in the world with terrain suitable for beginners all the way to Olympic athletes. As one of the owners, my role seams never ending. My main focus is to be a resource for those that work for me. That consist of things from creating a business plan that will provide the best experience for the customer to changing light bulbs. I’m extremely proud that I have brought the climbing community to hundreds of thousands of people.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start all over, I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I don’t live with regrets and Stone Summit is my life.
