Today we’d like to introduce you to Freedom Mitchell.
Hi Freedom, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m one of nine children. I moved to Georgia in 1991 from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Some of the values that my mom and grandparents instilled in us were to be kind, always stick up for yourself, do your best, be presentable, education and family are important, and never forget where you come from. Our parents divorced when I was young and my mom has been a single parent for as long as I can remember. She struggled; we struggled. Although I come from humble beginnings I have no regrets. It has taught me to value all things achieved, to cherish family and friends, assist others when I am able and to never forget those that have assisted me along my journey.
My journey to peace began many moons ago without my knowledge (LOL). I’ve struggled with depression, low self-esteem, and low self-worth. There were times in my life where I saw more darkness, than light. I was witnessed my mother raising nine children, so giving up was never an option but finding a solution was. I began to see a therapist and was medicated to combat depression. and many times I decided to take medication to assist with the darkness. I would eventually try meditation at a local community center but was very underwhelmed. Many years later, the universe would guide me to a small yoga studio owned by a licensed therapist. My first yoga and meditation in this space was life-altering. My journey to peace had finally begun…My mentor encouraged me to study to become a certified yoga and meditation teacher. After achieving my certification I still felt like I wasn’t living my life’s purpose. The universe would then lead me to a program to become a life and health coach, and the rest is history.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It has taken me many years to listen to my heart and intuition and to honor my truth. It has also taken me many years to be completely honest with myself and to be courageous enough to build my business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a life and health coach and a yoga and meditation teacher. I help others listen to their intuition, embrace their personal power and honor their truths. I’ve created a life coaching business that incorporates yoga and meditation. I’m most proud of my ability to challenge myself daily for personal growth. Every session with my clients is also an opportunity for me to learn something from them as we grow together. I’m a professional that has forgiven herself for past mistakes and am not afraid to ask myself and my clients difficult questions and embrace the unknown. What makes me different from others? I’m uniquely myself. I do not need permission to be my authentic self. I’m able to be different without reminding myself to be different. Lastly, I always keep an open mind.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m a hopeless romantic. I will read a romance novel in the blink of an eye and I will cry to the point where I have to reach for a tissue to blow my nose. Love stories make me cry tears of happiness (LOL).
