Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexis Ruby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Ruby.

Hi Alexis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
When I first started modeling it was completely just for fun and to be a muse for friends. It started when a close friend from high school reached out to me to be a model for her; she is a makeup artist and was updating her website. After those photos came out a friend of hers reached out to me, a local designer that was needing models to take photos in some of her new pieces being dropped. From there the ball was rolling and fast. I was contacted by a couple of photographers in Atlanta looking to build their own profiles and books and I was personally just enjoying feeling beautiful and learning how to move in front of the camera. In early Spring 2019 (just maybe six months after everything started rolling) I was contacted by my current mother agent, Demanti head of St. Claire Models. We met, discussed logistics and I signed the contract with his agency to see where it all could go. By June of that year, he was sending me to New York to meet with some of the largest agencies in the world. I blessed to sit down in front of some of the amazing people that I did and I ended up signing with IMG Models Worldwide after my very first trip to NYC. I had absolutely no idea what signing that contact was going to do but the things that both Demanti and IMG have done for me in beyond what I could have ever imagined or dreamed. For me, everything aligned right and fell right in my lap. All I did was say yes to His plan.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been quite a rollercoaster. When I first landed in New York I hit the ground running, booking a major fashion show during my first fashion week. Things rolled pretty smoothly after that until covid hit the world Spring 2020. I had to leave NYC and move back in with family – not knowing when, if ever, that I would be coming back to the city. It was heavy, I had given up my entire life in Atlanta to take this chance and live out this new dream that now felt like it was being crushed before I even scratched the surface. One of the best decisions I ever made was taking the stimulus money and moving into a New York apartment with four other roommates. I knew if I didn’t believe in myself and take that opportunity, who knew how long it would’ve taken to happen.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full-time, curve model. I am blessed to travel the world, meeting new people, and being a part of some amazing projects. I am probably most known for my fashion shows and work with Marc Jacobs and the famous photographer, Steven Meisel. I am most proud of my growth over the past couple of years modeling. I had never really done it before I got signed so this entire journey has been such an opportunity to find love within myself and beauty in everyone and everything. I would say what sets me apart from others is my Southern Charm. My goal is to walk into every room, every photoshoot, with a warm smile. That is what I want to be known for; how I’ve made others feel on set.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe it’s important to be strong in who you are because this industry is tough, you can’t let the rejections get you down when the success comes ten-fold in the end. Trusting the process and knowing that your time is coming. Always crave being better, when the craving stops so does the success.
