Community Highlights: Meet Kenyan Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyan Richardson.

Hi Kenyan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I had a very subservient yet earnest support system. My mom drugged me to Sunbury Missionary Baptist Church faithfully, every Sunday, where I was EVERYONE’S baby! I appreciate growing up in Midway, Georgia – it’s a pretty small town; you probably don’t even know where it is. If you saw it on the highway, you might’ve chuckled and said, “what is Midway?!” It’s literally midway between Brunswick and Savannah, and Jacksonville, Florida, and Beaufort, South Carolina.

I was pushed early on to do administrative and clerical work for the church. Can you imagine a 14-year-old kid rewriting the monthly church conference notes while simultaneously listening to a tape recorder trying to hear what Sister Stevens said sitting eight rows away from the front table? I bet it’s even harder to believe that I was the Sunday School Secretary on Sunday mornings, responsible for keeping up with minutes and other bookkeeping tasks typically assigned to someone much older than I was. However, I took that motivation and inspiration to do amazing things for my community and family. After graduating from Liberty County High School as my Senior Class’ Vice President, I left for college, headed straight to the big city! As a country boy from a small town, I made sure I had all my ducks in a row when paying for my education. I worked overtime to earn myself a few scholarships from The Liberty County MLK Observance Community, the Cosmopolitan Club, and a few others.

Life was no fairytale, even as a sprouting spring chicken transitioning into adulthood. I spent my days earning my living as a Shift Manager at Arby’s and then on to Verizon Wireless as an Assistant Store Manager. My nights were dedicated to my studies and perfecting my craft as a sales expert. All my hard work paid off the day I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

I had accomplished so many great things by this point in my life, but I desired another challenge. So, I tried my luck in Corporate America as a Talent Acquisition Specialist at Market Source. Working for a marketing company taught me the importance of building and maintaining solid relationships.

I had met so many tenacious people while working at Market Source that networking became a hobby rather than a chore. My position there sparked newfound confidence deep down inside that was waiting to emerge. I felt the impulse to be and do more, so I accepted a job offer at Coyote Logistics as an Account Manager. I learned how to manage several different accounts and service a variety of clientele. I had all these tools under my belt but still felt like I needed more.

It did not take me long to realize my passion for servicing others. A desire to personally connect and build life-lasting relationships was the inspiration behind transitioning into real estate. I attended real estate classes while actively enrolled at the University of West Georgia but didn’t know at that time that it would be something that would bring me to where I am today.

I joined an award-winning real estate team. They really helped me lay a solid foundation for my career and unveil my strengths and weaknesses.

Eventually, I was introduced via social media to my current broker, the prosperous Denise Williams of Williams & Co International Realty. What attracted me to Denise and her team was that she is changing the real estate game; I knew that I wanted to be a part of that change. After I interviewed to be a member of her growing team, I was immediately inspired.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth transition so far. I would be lying if I said I did not struggle with some things to conquer the level of success that I have today. My business began as a very thriving entity, but after the pandemic hit us like a ton of rocks, I had to get very creative with my next move. The coronavirus pandemic shut down our typical ways of staying connected with others. I could not attend any networking events, so social media and the internet became my two primary sources of communication with the outside world. Today, I have a growing social media platform, and I make sure to actively engage and post daily on it.

Transitioning from being a regular employee who clocked in for work every day to being a commission-based entrepreneur is challenging. I had to develop a system and schedule that would allow me to be successful in this space. Between setting my own hours of productivity to incorporating the best CRM that would ensure consistent communication with my clients, I soon figured out my way and developed an emerging system that works for me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ?

I provide a seamless home buying and selling process and experience. I work one-on-one with my clients from the initial thought process to bringing them to a higher position that they had always pictured themselves.

I offer a luxury home buying experience. I treat everyone with the utmost respect and indulgence, making them feel like signing for a new house or selling their previous home is a major life achievement. I create luxury, monumental experiences because, essentially, buying a home is a significant life milestone.

I am most proud of the realty team and brokerage firm that I work side by side with. They are all amazing and talented real estate agents with a wide array of experiences and resources. I have learned a lot from them.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor or networking, in general, is not an easy feat. You should seek a mentor or team of like-minded and passionate individuals willing to groom you and take you under their wing. It is ideal to find someone who works well with you and someone in the same line of the profession that you are. Importantly, it would be best if you found someone who has your level of knowledge and a much higher level than yours because, essentially, you can hone your own skills, but it’s someone else who could get you to where you want to be.

These methods of action have worked well for me and helped me achieve my current level of success.
