Today we’d like to introduce you to Tangela Love.
Tangela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been pretty crafty and often referred to as the “Jill of all Trades.” Prior to conception of Apples To Love, I worked in the medical field. For the most part I enjoyed my job but it wasn’t enough to satisfy my creative cravings. I was always nominated to be in charge of planning our office holiday/birthday parties. I really enjoyed those duties, as it has always been my desire to become an event planner.
Ever since I was old enough to work, I have dreamed of owning my own business. I wanted to do something that fun and exciting and most of all, something that I love. So, I began to do some soul searching and a whole lot of praying.
Long after all the praying and soul searching…one day after work, the thought of making custom candied apples dropped in my spirit. The fact that it was something different grabbed my attention. I specifically asked for something different when I prayed. Well this was definitely different, for sure. (Lol)
I didn’t ponder the thought too long but grabbed it and ran with it!
That was the conception of Apples To Love. I had no knowledge about making candied apples, nor did I have any experience. All I knew of was red candied apples. I began my research and then I began making custom candied apples for special occasions and for family and friends.
Shortly after the conception of Apples To Love, I lost my regular 9 to 5 job. At that very moment, I knew it was not an option to work someplace else, but time to pursue my dream, full-time.
I work long days and night but it is so worth it. I am very blessed to do what I love to do.
When I first started my business, I only offered custom candy apples. As of today, we offer a select few other custom treats, event styling services and we occasionally teach classes on the process of making candy apples. We have grown so much and so fast. We will be expanding very soon and were very excited about that. We still have a ways to go and many more goals to achieve. Each day we make small steps that advances our growth in a BIG way!

Has it been a smooth road?
I remember saying to myself “How hard could it be to make candy apples?” Initially, it was challenging and frustrating for me because I’m such a perfectionist. As time went by, I joined various groups and starting doing a whole lot more research and eventually, I got better and better at it. My greatest challenge was balancing my time. I wear many hats in this business and it can sometimes be overwhelming. Another challenge for me was mastering the smoothness and shine of the apples.
During the process, I made a lot of mistake but I was very determined to stick with it. There were times when I wanted to give up. I literally had to constantly remind myself of why I started. And at that time, I was already too far in to turn back. Besides, I have tough skin and I’m a fighter.
Today, I think it’s safe to say that I have mastered my craft. (Blushing)
Apples To Love has had its fair share of ups and downs along the way. I realized early on that this is a part of the process. My challenges definitely made me stronger and better. I didn’t have a big support team but I did have a few good friends and family that wanted to see me succeed. Most importantly, I had God’s favor and His approval.
