Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Wise and Mansi Tanna.
Hi Jessica and Mansi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We started Audacity Magazine & Events completely by accident. When we first came up with the concept, we were working for another company that wanted to expand their platform to millennials. We were called “crazy and unreasonable millennials” for requesting skin in the game and reasonable buy-in/equity options. So we decided to venture out on our own.
We recently celebrated our third anniversary, and so much has changed. We started out as an e-magazine and events platform, and since then we have scaled it to reach more millennial and Gen Z professionals who want to grow their careers. We’ve expanded our platform to paid subscriptions in addition to our free content and ticketed events. We also have the Audacity Book Club, curated monthly by one of our editorial partners.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. We are a company of only 2 people, and we both have full-time jobs and other endeavors. We sometimes find ourselves spread thin because we simply lack the manpower. People often assume this magazine our full-time job, LOL. It’s flattering though, because that tells us we’re doing a good job. But that’s what the reality of running a business is, especially this early in the game. We’re thankful to have some incredible collaborators and partners to help lighten the load and bring more value to our subscribers and readers.
As you know, we’re big fans of Audacity Magazine & Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an e-magazine and events platform designed to help millennial and Gen Z professionals advance in their careers through editorial content and networking events.
We have two kinds of events. One is our signature Round Table Talk, where millennials gather to discuss current events or workplace topics that directly affect our generation. The other is our quarterly Elevator Pitch Contest, where up-and-coming entrepreneurs can pitch their businesses to our audience and guest judge. Winners receive an interview with us and a free ticket to the next Audacity event. We’re super proud of our events because they give agency and safety back to millennials who are often infantilized in the workplace.
We are also proud of our paid subscription service, the Audaci-TEAM. Subscribers receive 2 free events per month, along with exclusive perks like our Fetch List. The Fetch List is one of our most unique offerings because it keeps everyone connected outside events. The Fetch List is an encrypted contact sheet for entrepreneurs and freelancers. You can pay to access this list or to list your business. Audaci-TEAM subscribers get this for free.
At the end of the day we are still a magazine, and we love creating content by and for millennials. We have both written and video interviews, as well as articles advising on career and lifestyle. If you’re interested in writing for us, we offer paid opportunities. We also have ad space in the magazine for anyone wanting to advertise their business.
What are your plans for the future?
We are really looking forward to SAFELY returning to in-person events in 2022! There will be new protocols in place to ensure that we are not being part of the very real problem that is covid-19, but overall we’re excited to see everyone’s faces again.
