Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla Kim.
Hi Mikayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I never thought I would start my own company (Conteur). Our first product, Founder was just a school project, which is now our first product. It is an application that connects entrepreneurs and like-minded people to build a strong startup. Currently, it is undergoing some major changes, including improvement in our algorithm and UI (user interface) design. Now Conteur is branching off into the art industry as well. We have two artworks currently being developed and planning to grow even more!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
First, the hardest part was keeping my input to the company consistent. Managing a startup as a full-time student was not a walk in the park. Balancing the work load was a challenge, but I started to get the hang of it. It got much better when I started to set concise goals and checklists. Knowing what I had to do in order to achieve my goal helped me spend my time efficiently, as well as gaining confidence in my time management. Another thing I had trouble with was opening up to new people, introducing myself. However, the more I practiced, the easier it got. Now, I love going up to people, learning new things, and making new connections.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Although our first work was more related to technology and design, I did not want to limit the products we released to apps. We started exploring art installations and light fixtures. I cannot share much due to confidential reasons, however, we are working with data visualization, emotion, and connecting them with light and movement. Our goal as a firm is to explore different industries with a variety of mediums and come up with innovative solutions. I am so proud of what we are creating, and I hope what we are doing impacts the society and help us all grow.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
As someone who is also just getting started, I think I am not qualified to give anyone any advice. I think it’s just important to learn as much as you can, you might be overwhelmed with all the new things you experience, but it will all be worth it!
