Inspiring Conversations with Delinda Davis of Delinda Davis Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delinda Davis.

Hi Delinda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Founded in 2018, we offer trendy and functional design solutions for residential and commercial spaces and we pride ourselves on delivering quality service from start to finish.

When I was a little girl, I absolutely loved the furniture in our home; I loved changing the rooms around and creating new designs with the furniture we had. At one point, my mother even told me that she once considered attending school for interior design as well. I started college several times and majored in the subjects that were most suggested, such as economics, business, etc. However, I would always get bored and impatient; and that is when I realized that traditional training was not for me. So I switched to an art school. At first, I was skeptical about how things would go. But, after that third class on the first day, I literally shouted out loud. I was so happy that I had found my true calling. My first job was at a custom cabinet company in NYC as a drafter, shortly after that I went on to work in the Donghia showroom at the Designer’s and Decorator’s Building. I eventually relocated to High Point, North Carolina, the furniture capital, where I continued to work in showrooms with clients from around the globe. In 2004 my daughter started school at Clark Atlanta University and it was then that Atlanta piqued my interest, and two years later I took a leap of faith and uprooted my life from North Carolina to Atlanta. Once settled, I asked myself if I wanted to stay in the design industry and the answer was “Yes, Yes and Yes.” But! I wanted to do more than decorating, I wanted to do space design and remodeling. I decided to further my education at a two-year, non-traditional school that provided the training that I was seeking, such as 3D Max and Revit. I am a problem solver and I use 3D modeling to design spaces. I worked for a few companies after completing college but I really had a desire to start my own business. So I did.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a woman in a male-dominated industry is a huge challenge. Starting a business and laying the foundation for success, networking, navigating client budgets and expectations and ensuring I have the proper wording in contracts, is also a huge challenge. But challenge is good and it keeps me on my toes! It has not been a smooth ride and entrepreneurship is tough sometimes, but everyday it’s worth it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Delinda Davis Designs is a boutique design firm, cabinet dealer and online home store. We work within the remodeling industry to find strategic solutions for cabinetry. This includes mudrooms, laundry rooms, entertainment centers, kitchens and baths. We also do custom furniture designs for bedrooms and offices. We work with flippers, contractors, builders, interior designers, etc.

We also work with homeowners! We love clients that are out-of-the-box thinkers, bring it on. I encourage you to be uniquely you by doing so. I often say “Express Yourself” and “Dare to be You.” When your family and friends visit to see the new space and designs, leave them in awe. Simplicity is key, and less is more is the answer.

Whether you are looking to remove walls or relocate the kitchen or bath, we can design that for you; and each style of design has merit. Budget-friendly or high-end luxury, we cater to them all; modern, contemporary, transitional, and traditional. So, whenever you are feeling the need to scratch that creative itch, or if you are looking to make the next big change to your space, call me, and let us craft something meaningful together.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I truly believe that the market is booming for interior and exterior renovations. People are deciding to stay in their homes and make minor/major updates that they may have put off prior to the pandemic. I’ve had many clients inquire on new cabinets for kitchens and bathrooms. These are parts of the home that we spend the most time in. As time goes on and home prices increase, I think we’ll see an influx of people who decide to stay put and renovate as opposed to paying the high cost of new homeownership.

At Delinda Davis Designs, not only do we design spaces, but we also sell custom cabinetry, so our clients are able to customize their space without buying stock cabinets off the shelves and without a high mark-up. We help you tailor your space to your needs. This is where I see the market going. Personalization will be key.
