Meet Itzel Bacilio Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Itzel Bacilio Lopez.

Hi Itzel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in the industry – my mom has been a business owner since I was born so all the memories that I have are related to hair in someway; no birthday parties, holidays, or even vacations to reminisce upon. After high school, I had no direction to what I wanted to do, so I started focusing on what I knew. After all those years, it seemed like my brain absorbed a lot of information, so when I started practicing my hands started to learn what they needed to do. The pandemic was a big eye-opener for me, because before I did not realize what I had and what I could do. When the risk approached that could cost me everything- the way I saw things changed. I saw the opportunity to create an entirely new business model involving a lot of social media work along with booking using electronic applications. As I promoted my work and what I can do, one of my followers (a friend I haven’t seen in years) came to get his hair done. He has helped me build great connections (including some actors) which have increased my drive to continue my education in the steps of some of the top stylists in the industry, thus making my work more detailed and granting me abilities to do some of the harder jobs in the industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road at any time. Being a single mother while juggling my health, career, and personal life has been a struggle; but I feel like my biggest hit came from losing my father during my transition to build the business I wanted to have. To distract me from my grief, I focused my energy on learning and creating art through the hair I was working with- because that’s the way I view my work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hair artist. I’m mostly known for my hair cutting techniques and barbering skills. Since my biggest skills are patience and attention to detail, my clients continue to come back to me. I enjoyed challenging myself with different cuts so as I am now transitioning to a higher level of hair color, I am taking on some of the hardest jobs in the industry- box dye removals, color corrections, and global blonding — all while keeping the integrity and health of my client’s hairs and in some cases improving it.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
To be honest, I don’t really like the city. I don’t even like to go out much except for in my own little town or with my family. I do however love to go out to eat!

Pricing:

  • $100/hr for color
  • $150/hr for major color corrections (box dye removal)
