Keith and Sandy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Me (Keith Gispert) and my better half (Sandy Cox) started this business three years ago. We have both been in the medical sales industry for many years and each had the opportunity to travel for business and pleasure quite a bit. We visited several popcorn shops in different cities and saw an opportunity to bring a different level/better product to the market. We both recall the moment we decided this journey would start as we were in a popcorn shop, looked at each other from across that shop and said “We can do this….”
Our approach involves using only top notch ingredients (the best cheeses, chocolates and only name brand ingredients) and consists of making everything from scratch to ensure our flavors truly taste like their description. Simple concept-Provide a delicious/great product with incredible customer service and people with return.
Our business model has shifted from a retail establishment to an online, corporate, large event and special occasion’s business. We do keep permanent hours at our shop on Saturdays (12noon-8pm) for customers to stop in and grab what they choose. We are also very accommodating to customers who need to stop in for appointments regarding upcoming large orders and we always welcome customers to give us a call if they are in the area (we welcome customers in if we are fulfilling orders in the shop). We are approaching our fourth year in business and have streamlined our flavors to the most popular and decadent flavors on our menu. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I do not believe there is a smooth road for any small business owner (not any of the owners I have spoken with). We will answer the question with “No”. Some of the struggles along the way have been figuring out the best business model for us. We realized corporate and events is a good match for us with our connections and sales personalities vs. the retail side. Retail can be great for many, but we are built for outside sales. I believe many people that do not own a business think that it is great, but perhaps many do not realize all the different aspects involved in running a business. We are continuing to learn and grow each day as business owners and welcome the challenges.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Popcorn Palooza – what should we know?
Our business (Popcorn Palooza) is a gourmet popcorn company. We are known for our different and unique flavors of gourmet popcorn that sets us apart from other popcorn shops. We use only the finest and freshest ingredients to provide the best possible product to our consumers. Consumers know us best for our most popular flavors including, Caramel Sea Salt, Frosted Caramel Sea Salt, Chicago Style (Cheddar and Caramel mixture), Oreo and Birthday Cake. Palooza Blast (fruit mixture) and Hotlanta Con Limon (a secret recipe that brings the heat!) are staple flavors that customers love. Feedback from many consumers that seems to set us apart from others is the quality of our product. Again, we take tremendous pride in providing the best popcorn possible with real and fresh ingredients.
