Today we’d like to introduce you to Karan Ashley.
Hi Karan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career in the music industry. I was in a singing group called Krush. I was signed to A&M Perspective Records and worked directly with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
While in that group I had my first acting audition for Sister Act 2. I did not get the part but I got the acting bug.
When I graduated highschool I was determined to go to college and study acting and film. The dream was to move to LA , become and actor and make movies.
One month before I was scheduled to check into college, I went to an open call audition for a kids show. 4 days later I was auditioning for producers in Los Angeles. By that evening I was signing a contract and I landed the part as the Aisha the Yellow Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
I now lived in LA, was a series regular on a TV show and was scheduled to shoot Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. When you are an actor and film maker you are constantly looking for your next role, your next budget for your film or TV project.
You have to enjoy and maximize the peaks and always prepare for the valleys.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actress, producer, podcaster and comic con owner.
I’m most proud of the journey I have taken and the evolution my career has experienced. When I landed the role as Aisha the Yellow Power Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers it opened the door to a 25+ year career.
I then found myself getting requests for personal appearances at comic conventions all over the world. I have done over 300 shows, in more than 10 countries and have meet hundreds of thousands of enthusiast fans who love Power Rangers. I often joke that every weekend I become a Power Ranger at comic con.
Doing these shows lead me to partnering with Michael Buoni and Nakia Burris to start our own convention in Atlanta called Rangerstop and Pop. This show brings together some of the biggest actors in Power Rangers, Anime, and Pop Culture.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I spent my childhood chasing my dreams. I had a record deal at 12 years old. I loved rehearsing and creating a stage show. All of my favorite childhood memories revolve around this time because this was when I began to scratch the surface to breaking into the entertainment industry.
I started my career in the music business in a group named KRUSH. We we’re signed to Perspective A&M Records and worked directly with famed producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. We worked on an album and had a song in the Platinum selling Mo Money Soundtrack.
Being in that group and working so hard, that time shaped my work ethic and laid the foundation to my drive.
