Community Highlights: Meet Dwayne Moore of Relic15 Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Moore.

Dwayne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey was a typical one, like most creatives in the field. I started in the industry as a Graphic Designer, who evolved into a Creative Director who also learned photography and videography. Traveling overseas, I was always astounded by the architecture and how the history of the buildings would automatically give character to a scene or photo. Photographers would convert an old church or castle into a photo studio, which blew my mind away. As a creative, I’ve been fortunate to travel and work in the fashion, music, and film industries but having a studio to call home for myself and others was always part of my overall plan. Locating the ideal space for photographers and videographers to play with natural and artificial light took a few years, but it was well worth it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My first attempt at a studio didn’t entirely go as planned due to the lack of real-world experience. Before assisting others on sets, most of my knowledge came from books, magazines, and trial runs with my team with our limited understanding. I was in my twenties and thought running a studio would be simple until the slow seasons and endless bills kicked in. What eventually helped was when I decided to co-manage other studios, all while having late-night calls with industry greats who owned production houses in LA, NY, Miami, and London. The knowledge I received from them were priceless.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Relic15 Studio?
Relic15 Studio is the name of the studio, which is in historic downtown Buford, Georgia. I searched high and low to find a space rich in old architecture for the character with enough light coming in for natural light photographers to enjoy. The 6,000 pus studio has multiple rooms giving a creator various moods and vibes to use when working with their clients. Advertising agencies currently use the space for commercials, while directors have been shooting indie film projects and music videos. Photographers from all around the state have been making the trip to Buford to experience the space.

Relic15 offers Studio A (The Ruins), which still has the original exposed brick from the 1800s and plenty of backdrops, a victorian couch, and accent chairs. Studio B (The Boho Room) is a bedroom set with a boho vibe with natural plants and styles that change with the seasons. Studio C (The Posh Room) is almost pure white with contemporary accent pieces and custom Angel wings to create a fantasy theme shoot. Studio D (The projector room) is often used for music videos or photographers who utilize our projector for creative projects. Whether a photographer needs space to shoot a celebratory moment or to capture headshots for a business profile, Relic15 has the space for them.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Barack Obama once said “success isn’t about how much money you make. It’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” My goal is to keep my fellow creatives happy. Photographers use the art of photography to capture moments that last generations, and if I can make their job easier, I’ve done my part. As a creative, I understand the stress and pressure of the job but helping others, and myself obtain a level of peace and confidence on this daily path to creative perfection is what I would call success.
