Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Elola.
Hi Amelia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Vieka Studios began after transforming my first apartment into an inspiring place for both my roommate and me. Shortly after taking Interior Design courses at Emory and doing lots of self-teaching, I started to decorate and automate Airbnbs around the Atlanta area. A year later, I turned my passion into a business, and today, I have designed and decorated Tv sets, office spaces, and multiple rooms in my client’s homes around Georgia.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship as a whole is a formidable challenge, especially for indecisive people like myself. As a designer, your decisions on all moves of your business are up to you. You set the direction of your business, design for the customers you want, and grow your income at a pace that suits you. I soon discovered that even though I was extremely passionate about my business, there were certain situations that I couldn’t control or predict. When I became an interior designer, I realized that my success depended on two things—the ability to work with other people and being able to adapt to any situation. The control freak in me had a hard time accepting that, but now I believe that the art of entrepreneurship is characterized by continuous learning and adaptability.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I provide interior design services to private and commercial clients. I believe that the conditions of your personal space have a significant impact on your well-being, which is why I specialize in home improvement and love to give great makeovers at affordable prices. I also share my own apartment makeovers with my Instagram followers to educate and inform them about interior design and renter-friendly hacks. I’m most proud of my business for allowing me to make the leap of faith and start living the life I love. What sets me apart from others is my originality and my personality, which allows me to get things done without being fearful or timid. Self-assured but not arrogant, I have the ability to amaze, impress, and motivate all at the same time.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I was the center of attention wherever I went. My bold and sassy personality made me seem much older than my age and adults were always surprised by my wit. Growing up, I would rearrange the furniture in my parents’ home while they were away and surprise them with a “new” living room after work. My family gave their honest reactions to the designs and my parents gave me complete creative freedom, which I’m grateful for.
