Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidra Murphy.
Hi Deidra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I’ve always wanted to be an actress… I even took drama in school for a little bit. As I got older, my dreams were a bit shattered I ended up in relationships and friendships with people either didn’t support me or wouldn’t even consider allowing my dream to come true for their own personal reasons. I also ended up having a family which caused my dreams to be on pause for many years. I am a mother…and I’m a survivor of domestic violence. One day I had an awaken and I made a decision to face my fears and face all the negativity of others around me… And I made a decision to follow my dreams… I won’t let anything stop me…
Through this process, I have gained so much knowledge of myself and how precious life is… through my experiences in life and my struggles I’ve decided during a pandemic to help people in real life… I created a platform on TickTock where I put together stories that are real-life stories; I just don’t put the name on them… I enjoy saving lives and I also enjoy being the gray for people that don’t have a voice in this black-and-white world. I have over 400,000 followers on TikTok and enjoy meeting new people… It’s also been my dream to one day make a nonprofit organization for men women and children who seek help and suffer in silence like I once did. During the pandemic, I continued helping people and showing people lives that have never seen it before… I figured within that time I could possibly start following my dreams and that’s when it all started. I took classes I ended up with an agent and two managers… I have done plenty of auditions… I have to Acting Coach is currently that teach me my craft because you can’t know too much ever there’s always something new to learn so I like to keep my options open and my mind open as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road but I’ll never quit. I have met quite a number of people in the industry who say they are many faces that they ended up not really being… Which made a lot of bumps in the road and it also led to some doubts I had ended up being booked for many films that either got canceled, they were lied about or it was just flat out fraud. They were independent films… Which I think is amazing and I was actually excited about them… Sadly I never got on screen for them due to many reasons… Like again them not existing… Director that says he’s a Director and he’s really not a Director producers that say their producers… People making themselves bigger than they really are… So just dealing with people that aren’t honest is what I have ran into that has made my journey a little bit bumpy but again I’ll never quit my goal is to get my EGOT and nothing is going to stop me… So this pause in my journey right now, I just appreciate it because I use it as a break and I still work on my craft every day with hopes and a lot of patience along the way. In between, I am also working on my own personal projects I am very excited about.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now, my management team is helping me develop my own projects… I’m also still posting content on Tiktok and helping people and working with an independent project currently.
What’s next?
I am working on one of my projects which is a reflection of my life story… And other entrepreneurial endeavors related with the arts and business world. I am planning on making nonprofit organizations for women, men and children who just need help. I can be mentally emotionally sometimes people just need a break…
My passion for the disenfranchised, the abused, and disenchanted have become the impetus for my reach to an even broader audience for television and film.
