Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Lancaster, Paul Bennett, and Tate Clements. Them and their team share their story with us below:
It all started with Britt, Tate, and Paul’s love of craft beer along with establishing and developing deep roots in the historically rich area of Norcross, Georgia. This dream cultivated from Britt and Paul’s landscaping business of many years. From this transition, they wanted the brewery to be a nod to growing and cultivating something from the ground up. They have planted the seed of their passions into a place for new memories and connections to be made all while enjoying unique, quality-craft recipes. Cultivation is a word that honors the process and the details of developing this establishment the team now calls home, how we all aim to create and develop relationships, to cultivating Cultivation Brewery’s finest craft, beer.
We can’t wait to meet each person, and we hope everyone feels a part of the Cultivation Family when they leave.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the initial stages of developing this place and opening the doors to the public, two of the owners hadn’t had the opportunity to work within the food and beverage industry prior. They said it was definitely an eye-opening experience while learning the ebbs and flows of this particular craft industry – especially with the added layer of what-ifs for any business regarding the pandemic. Since opening day, Britt, Paul and Tate have enjoyed being hands on in every way possible, whether it’s pouring your next beer, cultivating relationships with each person that steps through the door, and being a part of the brewing process with Master brewer, Chewy, and assistant brewer, Ashli.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Cultivation Brewery is a newly established microbrewery and family-operated. It is nestled in Historic Norcross but off the beaten path from the central downtown area. The doors have been officially opened to the public since mid-February of 2021. Like previously stated, this place is a nod to the landscaping business location and that correlating with the idea of planting a seed in a town of deep roots and rich community. Since the opening week, this brewery has operated on a 12 tap system. So, this small, close-knit team and both head brewer and assistant brewer are always bouncing off ideas and coming up with new flavor combinations for future brews. Expanding on the idea of planting a seed, the owners and brewers are continuously pushing the limits of what can be produced for the community as this place and brand grows.
Being a small operating brewery, Cultivation is set apart by releasing a new blend each week…and then some. They want everyone to have something to look forward to all while building trust and providing consistency in producing quality craft beer. Since the Spring season, this brewery has partnered with Nell’s Produce Market of North Atlanta by using their fresh, local produce to infuse into various beer releases. We had the opportunity to partner with Georgia Liquor Barn for select beer to be aged in Whiskey barrels. We also had the pleasure of partnering with Adams Vineyard of Norcross during harvest season 2021, and the brewers created a Muscadine, Kettle Sour. This release will now come around each Fall at harvest time where staff and the local community come together to pick grapes. Always fresh, always local, and always innovative.
Another aspect that sets this hidden gem apart is the space and atmosphere to enjoy the craft beer. While intimate, the space is simultaneously open and welcoming due to the natural light peeking through the ceilings and from the multiple windows and garage doors that remain open on any beautiful day. Britt, Tate, and Paul want this establishment to also be a neighborhood and family-friendly environment with a side fenced-in area for those with kids. The actual brewery facility is visible to the public as well, so if Chewy and Ashli are brewing away, you can see them in action at every step. Each aspect of this place, whether the lit, barrel stave wall or the circular concrete, surfaced bar, was done with purpose and superb attention to detail by Coastal Comforts Construction.
The staff at Cultivation aims to offer various ways to bring everyone together with trivia nights, live music each Friday, playing your favorite sports team on the screens, an event to give back, etc.! Local, delicious food trucks come to this establishment most nights of operation, and every Friday there is a new beer release called “Fresh Beer Friday”.
