Rising Stars: Meet Erika Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Anderson.

Hi Erika, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Reel Form Media while I was still in college in 2016. I just started photographing friends and random people I saw online that had an interesting look. Over the years, I maintained relationships with models and other crew members. I am now able to offer studio sessions with backdrops right in the comfort of my home.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been an easy road! While I enjoy growing my business, I needed to save up for some of my master plans. I am currently working as an Art Coordinator on various TV shows around town. We work around 50-60 hours a week and I would take shoots on the weekend. Trying to maintain working relationships with clients while working a totally different job has it sets backs.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in photography, creative direction and directing/producing of music videos.

Reel Form Media is all about finding the “real” in a client. Most times I like to shoot models with a unique look and expose it. I love taking them out of their element and showing them a side of themselves they have never seen. Working with colors and lighting is my favorite thing to do within photography.

I am most proud of the music video I produced and directed with Rapper Sierra Shante. It was first time doing a beginning to end process. Everyone was so please with how smooth the process was. I provided everything from cars to crafty. I am excited about working on more videos in the future.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
It’s hard to say where the industry will be in five years creatively. A lot of people are getting back into film photography and vintage looks. Photography and music videos have always been a thing and if anything has gotten bigger with bigger budgets. I think what will change is how people network. How they get their next opportunity. Social media controls a lot of that. If people study up on marketing, the possibilities are endless.
