Today we’d like to introduce you to Aquerrah Cannon.
Hi Aquerrah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been an artist. Whatever way I could express myself I did it! Singing (which I still do), Writing, and Drawing/Illustrating were my mediums in which I chose to express whatever I felt. I eventually lost the passion I had for drawing and I was no longer motivated. Once I entered High School, I yearned for a new outlet. At the age of 14/15, I picked up an eyebrow pencil, and the rest was history!!! I refused to be put in a box. I’m divergent.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely hasn’t been smooth sailing. I chose to completely dive in headfirst into a sea of the “unknown” in the middle of the pandemic. I was tired of sitting on my full potential both as an individual and artist. When I started, I didn’t even have a website. I was just promoting everyday “fishing” until people started to “bite”. It was so many hours, days, and even weeks where no one was booking. It was in those moments where I was so close to giving up. I felt like I must’ve been insane to keep going. But as an artist, there’s going to be days where it seems as though things are just barely creeping by. That comes with the package. I had to stop comparing my success to the success of others. Comparison is the thief of joy!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Luxury Makeup Artist/ Beauty professional and Beauty Influencer. I specialize in providing my clientele with the best beauty experience I can provide. As an influencer, I create what I would like to call “It Girl” content, I love becoming who I want to be by just the stroke of a brush. I balance both influencing as a Beauty Professional and Creative by treating my clients the same way I treat myself. I feel as though my ability to create such a positive carefree environment for my clients while maintaining professionalism puts “Kut by Kira” a “Kut” above the rest.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I feel that ANYONE who is in this business or just business for themselves in general is a risk taker. There’s no way you’ll reach your full potential without it. I launched Kut by Kira in the midst of one of THE most uncertain times in history. Going from a dead end job with nothing but my talent and an immense amount of passion into an “over saturated” industry where there’s no guarantee. That’s what Risk Taking is. It’s being in a room full of ‘No’s’ and choosing to make (a) room for yourself.
