Check Out Addon Barnett’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Addon Barnett.

Hi Addon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from St. Petersburg, Florida. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia back in 2017 after serving years as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy. I have been in love with music since I was ten years old. I started deejaying back in 2016 and have been consistently working events and making dj mixes ever since. Back in 2017, I started making an r&b mix series titled Sundayz that comes out every Sunday on the Soundcloud platform. I have currently over 119 mixes consisting of r&b, rap, and afro beats. These mixes have helped me connect, network and reach listeners from all over the world. Moving forward, I would like to curate and throw events so that the world can hear my mixes live. I currently started selling merchandise that includes T-shirts and hoodies with my mix covers on them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road back in March of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began, I fell into a deep depression where I stopped deejaying for six months. I live by a saying “Music Heals What Medicine Can’t. I am an avid believer in this saying because music played a major part in healing my depression and anxiety.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a DJ. I specialize in r&b. I am known for creating r&b mixes that are titled Sundayz every week. I am most proud of staying consistent with my dj mixes and being able to reach listeners not only in the Atlanta area but around the world. What sets me apart from others is my consistency song selection. I strive to find music and songs that no one has ever heard.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I feel like I am a risk taker because making dj mixes every week leaves a lot of room for judgment and criticism. A major risk I have taken is deejaying a private event for NFL celebrity Bryant Mckinnie in Miami, Florida as a rookie dj at the time and performing well despite me being nervous just starting my d.j career. I think that risk taking is the only way to move forward in life. You can’t be afraid to fail and you will never know if you do not try. I feel that you miss 100% of the shots you do not take and I feel that failure is the father of learning.
