Meet Kamaria “Meg” Anderson of Get Loc’d In in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamaria “Meg” Anderson.

Kamaria “Meg”, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began doing Locs in 2013. It was my freshman year of college at Savannah State University and like most college students, I was broke and without a job. I spent countless hours trying to come up with a plan to make some quick cash only to buy my essentials (toiletries, snacks, school supplies), and then IT HIT ME! I decided I would start doing Locs! I pitched the idea to a few of my friends and peers and the word spread fast. I was using my social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) at the time to start creating an online portfolio of my work that would be easily accessible for potential clients and before I knew it my classmates, as well as few of my family and friends, quickly became eager to allow me to “work my magic” on their heads.

Before long I found myself building a steady clientele on campus and I became extremely interested and completely invested in all things relating to Locs. I began researching products and techniques to find out what worked best for starting, styling, and caring for Locs and why. Upon searching, I stumbled across the YouTube channel of Damian Walter (a well-respected traveling Loctician dedicated to providing his clients with all the tools and secrets to growing and maintaining healthy Locs) and I was completely mesmerized! I wanted to be JUST like him. So I contacted him and scheduled a one-on-one class and the rest is history!

I enrolled and began attending the Aveda Institute of Cosmetology in Atlanta, GA in November of 2014. Shortly after school cosmetology school ended I began training extensively under the mentorship of Mr. Walter in Houston, Texas (where he is based). I did a lot of traveling and assisting with him over the course of a year and in June of 2016 I officially made my debut into the hair industry here in Atlanta. Since then I have worked diligently to create a reputation for myself and my brand by being true to clients and sharing my passion for healthy locs!

Has it been a smooth road?
I would have to say that my transition into the industry has been fairly smooth. Thanks to my mentor Damian, he really paved the way and I pretty much walked into a ready-made clientele that he had built here in Atlanta. Clients were eager to come visit me once they realized I had been trained and was approved by Damian!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a Loctician. This basically means that I am a stylist who specializes strictly in Locs.

I am known for providing clients with consistent service, polished styles, and practicing healthy techniques!

I am most proud of seeing my hard work and diligence pay off! Since starting my business, I have watched my clientele and fan base grow exponentially and I must say; that’s a pretty amazing feeling!

I think what sets me apart from a lot of other Locticians is my ability to not only provide each clients with a hairstyle that they love but to also create an experience that they’ll never forget, starting from the moment that they sit in my chair! It is my goal to ensure that my clients have Locs that look nice, neat, and healthy!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Atlanta is great place for businesses like mine because there is a DEMAND! I would definitely recommend any aspiring Loctician to consider building a career here in Atlanta.
