Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Watson.
Hi Tamika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Her Love Clothing LLC is not only an urban clothing line but a movement. A movement to instill the empowerment of women and the love of self. A movement to let everyone know that we (women) are queens and should have the right to demand to be treated as such. Our motto is “Loving the HER that is You.” During Her Love’s six years, the brand had been seen all over the world. From fashion shows to magazine articles & various web series. The brand has so developed a program called Project Her Love that uses modeling as a self-esteem booster for young girls. The creator, Tamika Watson says this about the creation of Her Love. “I’ve always had a love for fashion. It was one of the ways I dealt with my self-esteem. I would constantly tell myself that I may be fat and ugly, but I can dress. That mixed with my diagnosis of ptsd and depression played a major part in how I once thought of myself. I had a special person in my life at the time who had self-esteem that was out of this world. I admired the love she had for herself and longed for it. As I begin to explore different ways to express those desires, the obvious choice was through clothing.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every brand has it struggles and mine have been no different then any of the normal. My biggest hurdle has been trying to get people to separate my sexuality from the meaning of my brand.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My brand is designed to celebrate the self-love of women. Most people don’t notice that the actual symbol is a women’s symbol with a crown. I am most proud of my #project her love where we help young girls with bullying, self-esteem, etc as well as runway modeling.
