Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaycia Albert.
Hi Delaycia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started with my grandmother. She would always send boxes from Michigan filled with cake supplies in the mail. When she came into town my siblings and I would help her make her favorite lemon glaze cake. I would always ask can I have the bowl when we were done. Asking like it really was the best part of it all. When the cake was done we were not waiting until it cooled off. Fresh out the oven grandma would pour her sweet lemon glaze on top of the cake and we would dive in. It was always just right and gone in the same day. Knowing we shouldn’t have eating it all we enjoyed ever sweet bite. My mom knew how much I loved baking with my grandmother so she decided to help me start my business. Starting with my business name and slogan. Then she took me to the grocery store and Party N Dollar to start buying supplies. I started selling jumbo cupcakes while I was in high school and they knew if I had two tote bags one had my cheerleader and soccer uniforms and the other had my moist and delicious red velvet and strawberry cupcakes. They were my best sellers then and still are now! What made it all some much fun was when I graduated high school and I started the Culinary Arts Program at Augusta Tech. and took cake decorating classes at Michael’s. I have been perfecting my skills since. I have gotten blessings and many opportunities thanks to my former high school principal and his wife. I started catering for plenty of events and meeting more people and gaining customers. I will say with out my family and peers believing in me more and more I feel I wouldn’t be where I am today. Baking cupcakes in high school was definitely worth it all.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a roller coaster but I know I will open the doors to my building soon. I have stopped in my mind plenty of times but I refuse to give up. Remembering my grandmother and the times we spent together enjoying the fun of it all helps me stay focus and having a great support team adds to it all. Ive meet a lot of wonderful business owners and entrepreneurs these past few years and I love how we all uplift each other and created bonds together making each other feel like family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the owner of Lacy’s Cakes LLC., baker and cake decorator working to expand my business more with more gluten free, diabetic friendly sweets and I will start on vegan sweets as well. Also I want to help other pasty’s chefs, cake decorators and treat makers with products to have on hand to help them pursue their passion.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Do not let anything or anyone stop you from building your business, charge your worth, stay focus and motivate. If you love what you do it’s worth everything. Pop up shop/vendors event are great opportunities to be apart of. I have learned people love to shop with entrepreneurs and small business owners.
