Today we’d like to introduce you to Kason Henderson.
Hi Kason, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From as long as I remember, I have always had a passion for music. I still remember making cassette mixtapes from radio stations in elementary school. I started singing and playing the piano when I was eight years old and I had my sights set on the big stage, so I performed many living room concerts for all my family events. It’s not until I started showcasing my musical talents that my passion grew into pure excitement for the music business and being a star!
I created MIL MUSIC to express my life experiences with pain, grief, heartbreaks, and regret. My lyrics talk about how frustrating and confusing life can be for a young adult; but it also displays a lot of love, joy, and happiness. It took me years to get to this point in my life, but now I’m ready to share my gift with the world!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Sure. Of course! I’ve had my fair share of struggles up to this point, some larger than others, but everything I’ve been through has shaped me into the man I’m very proud of today.
I’ve had struggles of failure, struggles of fear, and even struggles of my faith; the feeling of not being that good enough to succeed in what I love to do, not living up to the level of life I saw for myself at this age or wondering if God is even listening to me. The road to success and purpose is always a bumpy one.
Trust your struggles – because they’re only phases of your life that will make you a better person.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter, independent recording artist, and live performer. My technique is rooted in R&B Soul with smooth tones & jazzy riffs. I specialize in live music entertainment, studio work compositions, background vocals, and media production. I started entertaining for people at a very young age; however, it was my college years that cemented my passion for songwriting.
Growing up, I was always compared to Sammy Davis, Jr, an amazing soloist with a smooth vocal & musical arrangement that leave a long-lasting impression of music and entertainment. I’m bringing that same energy with a more captive style, ability, and stage presence.
That’s what makes MIL MUSIC different than anybody else!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
My real name is Kason Jahmil. “Mil” is a nickname my family gave me growing up, a nickname that I actually thought that was my real name. I heard it when they were excited about something I did or happy about what I’ve accomplished most of the time – And it stuck! Now that I’m an adult, they still call me that. What better way to start this journey with a name that was created from a place of love.
I’m a big fan of nicknames because I believe it encourages creativity that makes us feel safe and comfortable, which brings out the best in artistic minds.
