Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Carter.
Hi Josh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I spent 20+ years coaching basketball & baseball at the high school level. I watched the caliber and mentality of kids gradually decline each year and began to wonder what my purpose really was. A fatal car accident involving my niece drove me to question that further and dig deeper. I signed up for and completed Sealfit Kokoro, realizing in a specific moment that when I focus on helping others, my pain disappears. I knew I needed to teach this to others but didn’t feel I could accomplish this in a school setting in the manner I wanted. So, the idea of Arsenal Performance was born – a merging of sports, mental toughness, and helping others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since beginning this endeavor, the biggest challenge has been getting equipment and materials in the facility in a timely fashion. The facility is finally taken shape and allowed the business to grow. With this growth, the more challenges have presented itself, but they are being met with a lot of community support.
As you know, we’re big fans of Arsenal Performance. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Primary focus is Athletic Development (Speed/Agility, individual training for basketball and baseball) for the youth of my community.
I have been the Head basketball coach at the local high school for the last eight years and coached a variety of other sports (boys and girls) and multiple levels (middle and high school) for the last 20 years.
There are many other great performance centers out there, and I believe I am offering more than just the physical development of the young athlete. I really take pride in challenging our kids mentally, forcing them to make tough decisions on a daily basis.
My brand represents so much more than the physical performance. I want kids to leave there armed with as many tools as possible to be successful on and off the field.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are so many people who have played a role in making this happen. My small community has been so awesome and have been there at every turn to make this happen.
My family has played a huge role and supporting my dream to make this happen with their continued support over the years and instilling in me a mindset to fight for what you believe in.
My wife, Jennifer Carter, has provided the most amount of support and knowledge (and patience) to make this endeavor happen. She, as a successful business owner, has guided me every step of the way with her insight and her honesty.
