Daily Inspiration: Meet DJ Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Williams.

Hi DJ, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Coming from Warehouse Logistics, I received an opportunity to work for the largest corporate fitness franchise in the world (at the time) Orangetheory Fitness. Moving from Peachtree City to Douglasville GA, I had an opportunity learn how to Instruct, multi-task on a high level, control an audience and network, all skills that I didn’t possess before. After a four years stint with the company, I didn’t feel like I received what was promised to me “a partnership”, so I decided to leave and start my own company. I did just that, I partnered with a client from Orangetheory Fitness and opened Fit2Elite Performance in Douglasville. This 7,000sq ft performance studio was my Dream and I treated it as such. This gym gave young athletes a place to call home, a no judgment zone and professional coaches to challenge them. As a business owner, I partnered with several Residential Healthcare facilities, Douglas Senior Center and Arbor Terrace to name a few. I was able to partner with a local Biys and Girl club and host boot camps and most of all, I was able to help two people that had suffered from Strokes (Basal Ganglia) regain strength and mobility. But after 18 months of struggling financially, keeping trainers and members we had to close the facility December 2019. After this COVID-19 made it hard to continue to live my dreams as a fitness business owner and that’s when I decided to create a new form of fitness called “Trap Fit”… Trap Fit is a choreographed fitness class created to match the rhythm of Trap Music. I started Trap Fit by reaching out to gym owners and asking for a chance to showcase my class at their gym and it landed me at the Loft Athletic Club in Midtown. After two failed attempts at gym ownership, it landed me back to where I needed to be. I quickly realized that you cannot skip steps. You have to hold the vision and trust the process to get to the next level. So I’m humble enough to start over and witness Trap Fit take off at the most prestigious gym in Atlanta, GA. I’m currently working on a small Trap Fit tour, as well as online program. Voyage ATL, thank you for the opportunity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles were managing personalities. I quickly realized that I wasn’t the best person for managing a gym full of trainers… I didn’t have the budget to hire an Operations manager and that took a toll on me. I had to own, manage, operate, train and instruct all day every day at Fit2Elite Performance.

After that gym closed, I had problems recreating myself, rebranding myself and finding an identity that was authentic and not a gimmick. I wanted to stay in my lane as well as stay in the game and I founded Trap Fit.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Creativity has always been my niche, what can I do that no one else is doing. I am a Personal Trainer with a clientele of 25-30 clients. My style is Performance Training, everyone trains like an athlete. My clients love the variety of training styles, movement patterns and knowledge and see results rapidly. I’m mostly known for my fitness class Trap Fit, due to COVID-19 I’ve only had six months as an instructor but I’ve coached this class in over 12 gyms in 8 different cities in GA. I would say my creativity and drive set me apart from most people in my field in Atlanta.

How do you define success?
Being someone who has lost big in this industry, I define success by your happiness. If you’re happy in your current state, you’re able to provide and grow, then you’re successful.
