Hidden Gems: Meet Karla Jimenez of Fresh Face by Karla J.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Jimenez.

Hi Karla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, thank you so much for having me! Well, my name is Karla and I’ve been a Makeup Artist and Esthetician for 4 years. I always had an interest in skincare and beauty, but it wasn’t until I was really struggling with adult acne that I finally decided to go to Esthetician school. My first day in school, I knew this is exactly where I’m supposed to be. I love the world of skincare and the science that goes into it, I love the world of makeup and the creativity. & I love making people feel good and feel confident in their skin!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a full-time Esthetician and full-time Makeup Artist is pretty hard because usually people do one or the other. They’re both careers that are in the Beauty/Aesthetic Industry however, they’re on completely different sides of the spectrum. Although it’s a challenge, it’s something that I really enjoy doing and could never fully pick one or the other. This is the reason why I started my own business Fresh Face by Karla J, to be able to create my own service menu and offer my widespread of services! Covid has also been a challenge. My line of work includes working super close to people, so I’ve had to close a couple of times & get creative with offering virtual skincare consultations and virtual makeup lessons!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fresh Face is a judgment-free zone, it’s ethical and result-driven! I’ve also worked really hard to create sort of a one stop shop for my clients! I offer all types of services like – customized facials, Microderm, Oxygen Therapy, Dermaplane, Waxing services, brow services, Makeup – Bold, Natural, & Editorial. I think what sets me apart is exactly that, that I work so hard for both industries (skincare and makeup.) I’ve actually had people in these industries tell me that I couldn’t do both and have to pick one. Which was a bit discouraging at first however, I have such a curious mind and want do it all. So I refuse to limit myself and keep going!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve had to close a couple of times due to Covid, so that’s definitely played the role of bad luck. But my good luck is that I have the best people around me! My family, friends, clients have all been super supportive of me so I definitely feel highly blessed because of that!
