Daily Inspiration: Meet Ingrid Sturgies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ingrid Sturgies.

Hi Ingrid, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Wifey, Mom of three, and Atlanta’s “Glam Fairy!”

I was born in the South of Mexico- Tabasco, Mexico to be exact. I am the oldest of three and moved to Atlanta in the early 90’s-at the age of five.

From that first grip of lipstick, at just 7yrs old, while playing dress up with my mom, my love for makeup began. Growing up in a Latino household, “novelas” (Spanish soaps) were part of daily life. I specifically remember studying the actress’s makeup and than practicing on anyone that would let me!

After high school, I attended cosmetology school at the Aveda Institute. My passion was always cosmetics, but I knew I still had a lot to learn. When finishing at Aveda, I landed a job at MAC Cosmetics and worked there for three years. After my time with MAC, I kept a corporate job but started to get booked more frequently for makeup and in 2013, thanks to Instagram, I decided it was time to make my own lane in this makeup world and Makeup INV was born. I came up with the name by playing around with the first two letters of my first name & maiden last name.

From the MAC Counter to The Real House Wives of Atlanta & most recently on The set of Netflix’s hit dating show, Love is Blind & Married at First Sight, to countless other gigs, Makeup INV is going on 10yrs of Bridal, TV, and Print experience.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! As with any small business, it has taken time & a lot of patience to get to where I am today. I’ve had to work 2-3 jobs at a time while I built my clientele. I’ve had to “make it work” with my kid’s school schedules and photoshoots. I’ve taken jobs where I wasn’t compensated JUST to get my name out there. It’s far from smooth, but those struggles make you & prepare you for the journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Bridal Hair & Makeup. That’s really what I’m known for the most. But I have also worked on a few different Reality shows & on some corporate gigs. My biggest accomplishments would probably be getting to work with some major companies like Delta & Cox Media.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I would have to say that the most important lesson I have learned along the way is to Stick with it! Believe in yourself AND your Brand! To not give up just because you had one bad day. Success NEVER happens overnight!
