Exploring Life & Business with KaShunti Farmer of Pure Life Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to KaShunti Farmer.

Hi KaShunti, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey as a Virtual Assistant in 2019. I remembered sitting on my couch in my apartment thinking of ways that I could bring in some extra income while doing something that I love and am passionate about. I’ve always been an extremely organized person. Everything has its place. I love lists, color coding, planners, you name it! I have a huge passion for organization and believe that all business should be conducted in both decency and order. So, I contacted a friend of mine who is a fellow virtual assistant and asked if she’d help me start my business, and the rest is history.

I started out by offering Administrative services for free to some business owners and fellow VA’s that I knew, and once I became comfortable with the services that I was going to offer to my clients, I filed my registration, started the business, and began accepting clients.

This year, Pure Life Consulting, LLC will be turning three. I’ve grown so much since 2019 and have plans on scaling to an agency within the next year!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles that I’ve experienced along the way were:

1. Setting boundaries for myself and for my clients. Having the right structure for your business is essential. Clients will literally walk over you if you let them. And if I can’t adhere to my boundaries, I can’t expect my clients to adhere to them as well. I had to stop wanting to handle/take care of every task regardless of the time of day and set office hours and cut off periods. It helped to foster a healthy work-life balance. I had to realize that I worked for myself so that I could have the freedom to do more of those things that I loved. Not be overworked by those who contracted my services.

2. Not every client is your ideal client. Sometimes individuals with work styles that are different than mine are not the best for me to work with, and that’s honestly okay. Finding my “ideal client” and targeting my marketing to that particular client helped me to niche down into a service specialty. I also had to realize that I am not for everyone, and that’s honestly okay as well.

3. It’s okay to say ‘No’. Not all money is good money. If a client is throwing a certain amount of money at your, but they’re not in alignment with your business plan, specialty, or won’t adhere to your business’ policies and procedures, then that client is not the ideal client for you. And it’s okay to refer them to another assistant who may better serve them.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Pure Life Consulting, LLC is a Virtual Assistant Firm that specializes in delivering high-quality administrative assistant services for business owners, professionals, and entrepreneurs. I have worked with a wide variety of business owners from Therapists to Lawyers to Chefs to other Virtual Assistants. While I am primarily a virtual assistant, I do offer in-person assistance and am willing to travel to assist my clients as well.

My specialty or niche is General Administrative Services, in addition to Business and Back-Office organization and formation. I am known for taking businesses that have no systems, policies, or procedures in place and helping the owners to establish and create systems that will allow them and their team to function at their highest potential. I am also known for taking those tedious tasks such as email/inbox management and data entry/management off of my clients’ plates and allowing them to take that extra time to focus on other aspects of their business that they enjoy more. I consider myself to be my clients’ right-hand woman! I take care of them and their business and relieve them of any unnecessary stress.

I am set apart from other virtual assistants because I am somewhat of a chameleon. I have many talents and skills and I am able to utilize them to assist my clients. I also love aesthetics and all things Black Woman Luxury, which I try to incorporate into my business and my brand. Black women are tapping more into their luxurious states of mind. We’re hiring housekeepers, nannies, and even private chefs. Why not hire a personal assistant to help make our days go a little smoother as well?

I want the audience to know that the services that I offer are in place to help you elevate your business, which will in turn elevate your personal life. The less stress you have on your plate, the more time you have to occupy your mind with things that you enjoy doing!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice to anyone who is looking to start a Virtual Assistant business is to not get discouraged. I went several months without a client and almost gave up. Then I looked up and was booked to capacity. You just have to trust that what you have to offer is exactly what someone else needs in their business.
