Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahmad Grant.
Hi Ahmad, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career in mental health and motivation five years ago after watching my sister die at 25. Her death triggered a depression I could not escape. As a black man in America, I was taught to be strong and not show emotion. But I held this pain in because there was no outlet. Life is like pipes: with too much pressure, the pipes will burst. And that’s exactly what happened after my sister died. After she took her last breathe, I also took my last breathe of happiness. Shortly after her funeral, I watched her being buried while my emotions were so uncontrollable that I totaled my car. This forced me to restart my life; even lose my job and apartment.
I finally moved back in with my family and was unable to accept who I was at that stage in life. I felt sad, angry, and confused. I lost myself. But like any other trauma, I expected that “this would only last for a day or two.” Instead, it lasted for six months. I often drank alcohol, hoping to forget about my issues. I called it a “bougie depression” because my choice of alcohol was champagne. By drowning out all the noise in my head through alcohol consumption, I believed that I could sleep peacefully each night; however, this only masked the pain instead of alleviating it.
The most difficult part of life is holding yourself accountable. For the first time in my life, I looked myself in the mirror and said, “You’re not okay.” The boy in the mirror became the man he is today. From that day forward, I looked at life from a different perspective.
Today, I know that I was called. I am able to talk about my experiences and share my message about self-love because of the healing I’ve done. God doesn’t call the qualified – He qualifies who He calls. I have a degree in life. It doesn’t come from any institution; it comes from God Himself. He is the only one who can give you life lessons and blessings without stressing. Damnn!
I’ve learned that it’s not what happens to you in life, it’s how you handle it and how you grow from it. It’s important to always keep a positive mindset, I feel this is the only way we can truly heal our pasts and move forward in life with purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I used to struggle with anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, toxic masculinity, losing myself, not loving myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
People know me as someone who’s honest, transparent, and who has a lot of passion. I use my past experiences to help motivate others.
I am a certified life coach who offers online one-on-one coaching to help people achieve ultimate happiness. I have been there and have walked in your shoes before, I have overcome my deepest fears, insecurities and anxiety. I know what it takes to obtain happiness and how you can get there using the steps that I myself took. My mission is to show people that they themselves can develop the motivation they need so that they can reach their full potential in life.
People often write me to say that my motivation helped them take positive steps in their own lives.
I was anointed before I was appointed. God qualified me through life, and now I am able to walk in my purpose to heal and reveal in others what God has for them and the world.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
It’s difficult to find suitable people to ask questions of and talk to about your problems. People are often too busy, too nosy, or not qualified enough. The truth is that the best person for giving you advice is generally someone who sees more potential in you than you see yourself.
