Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Campbell.
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A first impression of me? People see me as a tad bit extra, with tons of fashionista flair. But if they took the time to get to know me, they would be shocked. I’m part shy introvert, double part socially awkward, but triple part giver of pure heart. PERIOD. All courtesy of the life given to me. When I was seventeen, I was blessed with the life-changing responsibility of becoming the mother of my “Sonshine”, Caleb. My life began that day, everything I have achieved and continue to accomplish is motivated by him. Being a teen mother opened my eyes to so many situations that women and girls like myself went through on a daily basis. I quickly learned that in my community, there weren’t many opportunities for “life” assistance that I needed when facing certain challenges. I’ve had several monumental events occur in my life surrounding substance abuse, domestic violence, and even a close call with death that resulted in the murder of an ex-boyfriend. These instances put me in a dark space of deep depression that I just KNEW I was never going to come through.
But, I’ve always had my faith regardless. My faith in God is what kept me and made me realize He let me survive that situation for a reason—to be a help and a blessing to others. With all I have experienced and witnessed, I knew that I wanted to help women and girls that struggled with similar obstacles. So, I started a nonprofit organization Strengthening Transformations Inc., focusing on women and girls with the belief I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. To be honest, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for God’s grace and mercy. In that near death experience that took the life of my ex, I was told it was a MIRACLE that I survived without any harm done to me because bullets don’t know names. I give Him ALL the credit and ALL the thanks for the purpose over my life and the plans to do great things in the lives of others! He also provided me with supportive family and friends: my mother Donna, of course my “Sonshine” Caleb, my Prayer 🅿️ Gary Wayne, and my bestie, the sister I chose, Nyechi. A special thank you to all of them because without them, I would not be where I am today nor would the organization.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Heck, NO, it has not been a smooth road! These challenges have spun me around and tried to drown me like a tornado and a tsunami! But I wouldn’t change a thing. Without the circumstances I’ve been through, I wouldn’t have the experiences to make me the woman I have grown to be and still growing into. I know that I am walking in my purpose that God has called and ordained specifically for me. I know that my life trials built my testimony which is meant to be shared with other women and girls going through the same situations. You never know how your story can be a help to the next person. I am a survivor and an overcomer! There have been several people I’ve met over the years that counted me out and doubted me but continue to be proven wrong from the way God shows out over my life. In the words of Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr., “Forgive those that hate, for they did not know that they are sick, with a disease.”
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a calling as a servant leader and have been given several opportunities to show that. To begin, I am the Founder of a non-profit organization called Strengthening Transformations Inc. We are an organization that advocates, mentors, and educates women (18-24) and girls (12-17) through workshops and community partnerships. We believe that empowerment is the key to breaking negative generational cycles and strengthening foundations. We are firm believers in transforming adversities into strengths! The annual events that my organization is most known for in our communities are Friendship Fest, Patricia’s Hearts To Heal Trauma Recovery Retreat, and Kristara’s Day. I am also a proud member of THE Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated (Ethel taught me) and love being able to show service in my community alongside other community and leadership driven women.
What sets me apart from others is I am a God-fearing woman, confident, and very determined. I am a doer and a go-getter that went from victim to victor. I am extremely community and service-oriented, dedicated to seeing women win!
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my faith, fulfilling my purpose and doing the work God has for me, my family, friends, and Strengthening Transformations Inc. My faith is something I can ALWAYS rely on and will constantly motivate me. My family and friends are EXTREMELY important because honestly…they keep me grounded. Sometimes you need a human aspect and I know they accept me as I am, which can be a lot to handle because I can be hard to deal with at times. I do “do the most”, respectfully. 😂 But, I love hard and I will go to bat for the people that I love. My people are always there and love me unconditionally through all my flaws because they know that my heart is pure. They are always there by my side which is appreciated, and I am forever grateful! They are my cheerleaders who believe in me even when I don’t even believe in myself, entertaining and helping me execute my spontaneous ideas. They are ALL always the family because my friends aren’t just friends, they are my family as well.
