Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Luu.
Hi Shirley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a mother of three, half-financially illiterate, and lost my husband tragically with no financial support and no life insurance. I was in emotional distress and fighting homelessness. I had decisions to make and fast. Thankfully, rather than wallow in my depression, I turned my “setback” into the beginning of my “comeback”. I chose to get into financial services. I wanted to pull myself out of financial disaster, and I wanted to create a legacy for my children. I also wanted to help other women so they wouldn’t have to face what I did. The more I learned, the more I taught. My mission became financial literacy and wellness for all. Everyone I met became a team member, a business building partner, or a client. That’s how I looked at every relationship and it paid off! Today I’ve been recognized as one of the elite experts in the financial industry as a 50>50 by Forbes under the Investment Segment, a best-selling author, and countless awards and honors. I’m in awe of my journey and so very thankful for each step.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My obstacles over the years were plentiful. People are quick to criticize, assume and judge. I’ve had competitors and potential clients enter conversations confrontationally. I’ve talked with many disbelievers. I’ve had other financial advisors try and hold me back or devalue what I had to offer. Being a single mom while climbing the ladder in the financial world and building my business was incredibly hard. I look back at the countless hours devoted to building my dream and balancing my family life and wonder how I ever did it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We provide financial services to all walks of life, we don’t have any minimum requirements. We work with unique products where we show our qualified clients how they can get banks to fund their retirements for them. Our Corporate office is located in Johns Creek, Georgia. Everyone from our top executive’s Debbie Gerlicher to our new agents, we are heavily involved in the community with the Lisa Initiative that focus on Financial Education for all by joining forces with the NFEC (National Financial Education Center). In the past year, Atlanta had Roswell days where we have provide thousands of pairs of shoes to the needy. From a giving back to the community, Providing Shelter House women and Afghanistan refugees with household needs, we believe in helping our community in more ways than just financial services.
What are your plans for the future?
I am enjoying every day working with and building my team, meeting new clients, helping my clients achieve financial wellness, and teaching people that talking about finances isn’t scary. So, my future plans are easy. To continue working on my legacy strategy. You see, in financial services, what you build today will pay for years to come and generate income beyond your lifespan. The empire that I have built provides me a guaranteed stream of income, whether I’m actively working or not. If something happens to me, my business income will deed to my children. Who wouldn’t get excited about a future with that kind of outcome?
