Meet Maurice Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice Johnson.

Hi Maurice, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began working in the film and tv industry in Atlanta in 2010 landing a national commercial and appeared on tv shows in the same year. In 2012 I landed my first major network show, Hawaii Five-O and amassed over 60 film and tv credits since then. I’m most notably known for roles on hit shows like Chicago Fire, The Vampire Diaries (shot here in Atlanta), Hawaii Five-O and Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse to name a few. I shot other shows like Good Girls, Devious Maids, Daytime Divas and Born Again Virgin right here in Atlanta. I began my career appearing in movies like When the Bough Breaks, Joyful Noise and The Billionaire Boys Club. This year alone, I am starring in two new films that have been recently released entitled Farm to Fork to Love and The Crickets Dance (filmed in Savannah), both released internationally. Farm to Fork to Love, a romance drama, features myself as Bret Porchetta who works as an executive chef at one of the top restaurants in New York. The film is released currently on Amazon Prime Video in the USA, Canada, UK, and Italy. The Crickets Dance, an award-winning drama/crime/history film set in the deep south, features myself as Andrew McGrath, a Southern lawyer who sought keys to his past most of his life. His discovery, shrouded in mystery and murder, turned out to be more than he expected. The film is being released on digital and multiple on demand platforms including iTunes, Comcast, Dish, Verizon, Prime Video, Google Play, Vudo and Telus in the U.S. and Canada.

I just completed filming the new feature film entitled Jones Plantation where I star as a brilliant sociopath, a true genius, who specializes in deception and mind control. I have done alot in my 13 years career from tv, film, stunts, theater, commercials, as a voiceover artist and as a producer. I follow the guidance of mentors Morris Chestnut and Michael Jai White to not only lead in movies and TV but to produce their content as well. You will both see and hear a lot more from me this year as I have more three more projects that will be released.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There has definitely been a lot of peaks and valleys in the entertainment industry. I have been taught to have thick skin and learned to mentally taking a lot more no’s than yes’s. I have personally had struggled more recently with covid as it has impacting many of the projects that I have been involved with. Because of covid some projects were canceled, roles canceled, filming dates were pushed back and/or filming locations were changed to accommodate.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I am most proud of working on projects in multiple markets including L.A., Chicago, NYC, New Orleans and right here in ATL. I have even shot recent films in Savannah (Richmond Hill),  Kansas City, Nachez, MS and Ferriday, LA. I hope to bring a project to my hometown of Augusta, GA in the near future.
