Meet Myra Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myra Flores.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a family and lifestyle photographer based in Atlanta and surrounding areas. I’m Mexican American born in Los Angeles, California, but I have lived in Georgia for the past 20 years. Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for photography. After High school, I was indecisive on what I wanted to do, and I knew for sure that I wanted to have a business. In my last semester in High School, I had to decide if I wanted to go to College for Cosmetology or Photography, so I decided to pursue Cosmetology. As years passed, I knew that I didn’t want to work in cosmetology, so I took photography courses. I started to work for a Financial Institution full time, and on my days off, I would go out and shoot. I felt like I had the best of both worlds, working in a professional field while working in my craft. I found out that photography was something I was passionate about, and I started investing more time learning about it. As years passed, people began reaching out for photoshoots, and just like that, something that was my hobby became my side hustle. I’ve been actively doing photography for the past five years. The name Flores Photography came from my husband’s last name. We got married about 5 1/2 years ago, and I took his last name, I told him playing around that it would be a good business name, and he said, “Why don’t you name your business Flores Photography?” so that’s where the idea for the business name came. I can genuinely say he has been one of my biggest supporters, he was the one that pushed me to start my own business, and for that, I thank him.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is not smooth, and I knew early on that anything worth building and investing in would take time for me to see the fruits of my labor. Time management is something I have focused on to lessen the constraints in my life, both personally and professionally. Learning to balance a 9 to 6 while working full-time at a financial institution has limited my availability to carve out time for existing and new clients.

Early on, I knew that I would need to reinforce healthy habits to protect my time personally and as an entrepreneur in the photography industry. Those habits have created a space for me to learn new skills, plan, discover new places, leverage technology and avoid unnecessary distractions. My clients often ask me If I struggle with managing both aspects of my life, and my response is sincere in that “Photography is my escape to unleash the creative side in me to capture moments that become lasting memories.”

Joshua 1:9 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a lifestyle photographer, authenticity means everything. Capturing pictures that reflect people’s everyday lives and candid moments is most important. I love to tell their story through images. An area that I specialize in is Theme Photoshoots. I love that I bring client’s ideas to life. I LOVE seeing their faces when they walk into the set and see what they visualized set up just as they asked. I’m proud of the hard work and dedication I have put into my business, and I always give 100% in every photoshoot. One thing that sets me apart from others is that I’m an extremely personable individual with an artistic eye that will make your experience with Flores Photography memorable. Like my business slogan says, Flores Photography, “When moments become memories.”

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of the childhood memories that I can remember vividly is that I would get my girl cousins all dolled up and have a mini photoshoot with the kodak disposable cameras. I remember telling my parents to take me to CVS to develop them. That’s when I knew I loved photography. I always had a passion for Fashion and Photography, and what better Duo than that.
