Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheena Bautista.
Hi Sheena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sheena Kelly Bautista Published Author of book Girl Go and Get Your Life Back. Born and raised in Gainesville, FL oldest girl of six children. I’d like to say it’s only by His grace at the age of 18 after graduating from high school, I decided to pack up my little escort and move to Atlanta, Georgia to give my oldest son a better life than I had. I remember it like it was yesterday, sitting on the porch with my grandmother and mom telling them that I was getting ready to spread my wings and fly again. Both were in disbelief, as a parting gift they handed me a bible and told me to take God everywhere I go. ‘Boy were they correct’ My father on the contrary, warned me of the problems that would occur with moving in with my boyfriend and invading his space, and boy was he correct. Beginning a new journey in a different state with limited resources and no family wasn’t an easy task, yet it can be done if you are determined to never return home. Here I was set out on my journey of growth and looking for ways to feed my newborn son accepting the first job that came my way as a Kirby salesperson going door to door selling vacuum cleaners that didn’t last long. I decided in order to get a jump into career options, I had to go back to school. Therefore, I went back to school and became a Nursing assistant, shortly afterwards a Medical Assistant. Thank Goodness to my educator right after graduating Medical Assistant School, I landed a well-paying job at a doctor’s office. Now, here I am with a stable career it’s time to get married, build a family, buy a home and settled in comfortably. So, I decided to start a business as a Mary Kay Consultant.
A few years later, I was happily married, with two handsome boys, my first husband and I had build a very successful barbershop and life was great. By the age of 25 years old I was living the American dream, owner of a home, pickett fence, a dog, a family, and multiple business. Well, one thing that was taken out of our relationship was God and it started to tank faster than the titanic ship. Five years later, everything I worked for was gone. I found myself divorced, depressed, no family, in foreclosure, filing for bankruptcy and driving a scooter to work, and to host my MaryKay parties for income. I knew that I couldn’t stay there so I decided to reach up and get help. I begin to pray and ask God to guide and strengthen me. And I remember sitting at my desk and my intuition guided me to look up a company that helps with grievance and loss after divorce. I went to counseling for months until I felt a weight lift off of my shoulders. I joined a car club and we would give back to the community by feed the homeless. Surrounding myself with people who genuinely loved and cared for me was extremely important after a traumatic experience. Honestly, through counseling, and giving of myself when I barely had anything to give “so I thought” was how I got set-free. I promised God that once I was free, I would tell my testimony to the world of how I overcame all of things that were designed to crumble my world and make me fold. Two years later after building my confidence, bank account and becoming emotionally stable, I decided to give love another try. My current husband and I dated for 3 months, and got engaged. He says, he knew from our first kiss that I would be his wife. LOL! My guy is a sweet giant, genuine, authentic, and more importantly cared about the affairs of my little ones. We are divinely aligned. As for my career, 11 years later after sitting in a cubicle thinking to myself the world must have more to offer, I resigned as a Billing Manager and decided to go back to cosmetology school to become a Master Cosmetologist. Immediately I voted in to be the schools Vice President, later being nominated to be the President of student counsel. Talk about elevation. In these roles is where I learned about the importance of leadership and influence. Everything thing I did or didn’t do was in the spotlight. I learned to lead with love and not criticism. These women had different walks of life so I could relate and others I couldn’t. In effort to provide some relief, I put a small group of student counsel women together to help support and we would do fundraisers to help with gas money, food, and other personal items. I will never forget during Cosmetology school, I conceived my 3rd son at this time, after 9 months give birth to him over the weekend and was back in school on Monday so that I could graduate on time. After graduating Cosmetology school I went on to open my first salon that was short lived but I don’t regret anything. When telling my story I use the analogy of me being the walking talking Job from the Bible in the flesh. Everything I lost God restored and give it back to me tripled fold.
Through counseling, prayer, meditation, fasting and massive action God restored my life and gave me double for my trouble. I remarried a gentleman who I manifested through clarity of vision for my life. God gave me a larger home, more children a better career. My career as a licensed cosmetologist slowed down in 2020 when the pandemic hit and my entire world was shifted. The doors to feed my family were closed, so I decided to go back to school to get my billing and coding licenses thinking maybe I should return back to the medical field once everything let up, not realized that I was just filling time. The universe had a different plan for my life. It wasn’t until 2021 I made a decision to increase the amount of personal development books I read and adopt a new habit of meditation. It was in the quiet moments of listening to my inner-voice I heard that it was time for me to finish what I had started in 2018 which was writing my book. So I did aggressively. Finished my book had an online launch party March if 2021 and it inspired so many lives that I decided to host my own very first Girl Go and Get Your Life Back women’s conference on my birthday August 22nd to inspire women and men all across the world that your life can change suddenly but it first begins with the vision for your life. Once you have vision then we must shift into massive action. Continue to trust your intuition, self-develop daily, and you too will get your life back.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have learned not to ask for the road to be easy but for God to give me the courage and the strength to endure until the end. Some of the struggles along the way would include not having a strong support system. Breaking through the competitive hair industry. Driving a scooter to and from work. Enduring foreclosure, and filing bankruptcy. Dating until I found the right guy for me
