Meet Yvette Gavin of Yvette Gavin Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Gavin.

Yvette, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve had the heart to help others to be successful. Whether at home or on the job, I would share inspiring stories and information with the goal of motivating others into action. That led me to start a women’s network group, Sisterhood, in 1997, where I focused on the spiritual aspect of everyday living.

Where I loved inspiring women through the teachings of Jesus Christ, I had to balance my professional career, motherhood, and wifehood with the work I was doing with the women of Sisterhood. Encouraging women was my passion but managing Information Technology teams was how I paid my bills. I enjoyed a progressive and rewarding career from reporting for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, editing at CNN, and leading IT teams at major companies like Lockheed, Delta, AT&T, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Cox Communications, and Cbeyond,

With all of my corporate America success, there were always this unfulfilled void within me to do more to inspire others. Yes, I found myself coaching and mentoring others in the workplace, but I knew I needed to reach more people so I gave up a lucrative income and followed my heart. In 2016, I merged my spiritual gifts of teaching with my natural leadership talents and founded Yvette Gavin Consulting, providing business consulting, training, and personal growth coaching services.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. My biggest struggle has been in the area of learning how not to give my services away for free. When I was working my corporate job, I would coach for free or allow my clients to give an offering. I have learned that I can not run a successful business by giving everything away for free.

My revenue took a hit my first year because I discounted my services and I struggled with letting potential clients walk away when they were not willing to pay my full rate. I am a quick study so I’ve made the needed adjustments to move my company forward and position it as a strong and reliable resource for training and coaching services.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Yvette Gavin Consulting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
