Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Dillard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Business Management. During this time, I was on the track team all four years where I competed in the long jump and 100 meter hurdles. A few years later, I decided to return to Tech to pursue my MBA.
After completing my MBA in 2013, I moved to Charlotte to work in Financial Services. After about a year in Charlotte and doing a little bit of everything, I found MADabolic and I was hooked. I actually had a few gyms I was planning to try out after MAD, but I knew my gym search was over. A few months as a client, I knew I wanted to join the training staff. In December 2014, I joined the staff. In 2021 I was approached with the opportunity to purchase MADabolic here in Atlanta and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to work for the gym I love in the city I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
COVID-19, I think has made things challenging for all small businesses.
When I closed on the purchase, I thought COVID was in the rearview mirror… We had a vaccine, cases were down, we were going in the right direction across the country then Delta and the Omicron. Never did I think seven months later COVID and possible COVID restrictions would be something I’d have to work through. I am lucky that with the spacing in our gym, the most clients we’d ever have in class is 25, and have 3700 sq ft facility, we have plenty of space for clients.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MADabolic is an interval-based strength training program. Everyday day is different, but we have three areas of focus we call the MAD Protocol.
M.A.D Protocol:
Momentum: 2:1 work to rest ratio. An energetic fusion of Athleticism & Endurance. Expect a gradual build-in pace and intensity.
Anaerobic: 1:1 work to rest ration. An intense exhibition of Speed & Power. This is the difference between “exercising” and “training.”
Durability: 3:1 work to rest ratio. A grueling display of Strength & Stamina. Time under tension is a critical element of our programming.
Each day we have five movements (exercises) that are well planned and programmed by our founders in Charlotte. We pride ourselves on being able to give you a personal training experience in a group fitness setting. Our programming is scalable for everyone, from the beginner to the professional athlete.
I am most proud that our brand continues to go against the grain when you look at fitness offerings. We strongly believe in fueling yourself appropriately for your life and not working out 6-seven days a week. We understand that for your body to perform optimally in life, you need recovery. That’s why we believe optimal training at MAD is 4x per week.
We off a new client special, five days for $5 so clients have a chance to try all three of our signature intervals.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Be flexible. You literally never know what’s going to happen from day to day. Be ready to adapt to whatever is thrown at you. Also, make sure whatever you do, that you truly believe you are doing the best for your friends, family, employees, clients and community overall. If you can get these to line up, you know you’re going in the right direction.
