Check Out Fabiana de Souza’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiana de Souza.

Hi Fabiana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family started The School of Rock journey when our kids joined it. In 2015 in addition to nurturing their passion for music, it gave them a community and served as a coping mechanism for them when I was going through cancer treatment. We’ve fallen in love as a family with School of Rock and decided to take a leap and work together in one. We wanted to expand its reach to more families. I have a background working for mental health and knew the impact music can have on it, even stimulating neuroplasticity, but I didn’t like the experience I had learning music when growing up. It was boring, had too much theory and not the songs I would like to learn. School of Rock provided a fun and engaging experience for my kids. And kept them wanting to know more. The Song First approach is closer to the way our brain is wired to learn, the group rehearsal teaches collaboration and the end of season concert gives them a goal and helps them get self-confident in public performances. We have the huge ambition of making a cultural impact in our community and being a safe haven where everyone can feel welcome.

We’ve opened School of Rock – West Cobb late February 2020, weeks before the COVID lockdown, so it’s been a crazy ride.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We are first-time business owners, constructions, inspections and all the usual red tapes around opening took way more time than we expected. Then, one week after our Grand Opening, COVID had us reinventing our business model and the way School of Rock operates. We’re a performance-based music school, we form bands and put people to play together and, all of a sudden, everyone had to isolate and social distance. We were lucky to count on the corporate leadership team and our fellow franchisees in this journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
“We are a growing, passionate community dedicated to enriching lifes through performance-based music education.” (School of Rock, Mission Statement)

School of Rock West Cobb provides in-person music lessons for students of all ages, 3 to 103. Our programs, camps and workshops for toddlers, kids, teens and adults make learning to play music fun and create great communities of musicians. School of Rock is the leader in performance-based music education. We combine one-on-one drum, bass, keyboard, vocal, and guitar lessons with group practices. Students learn to play music from day one and put on live performances at local venues. Our experienced instructors are local musicians themselves who combine the performance-based School of Rock Method and programs with individual music lessons to get results for their students.
