Today we’d like to introduce you to Doniel Lovely.
Hi Doniel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Detroit, MI to my loving mom Amy. I am the oldest child and also the oldest grandchild as well. I had to become a leader of my family at an early age because I have two younger sisters that have always looked up to me.
Me and my mom moved from Detroit to Memphis, TN in 1999, there is where I started working and building my work ethic my mom had always shown us to have. My first job was as a cashier in the local supermarket at the age of 16 years old.
After I graduated high school, I went on to become an auto body technician and painting cars was my first love. I found a way to make a lot of money doing something that was fun to do and I enjoyed watching people see their cars I have fixed.
This is wee my joy of helping people came from. I knew that if I could solve a problem, I would never have to look for money it would find me.
In the fall of 2009, I went the college to study IT System communication and in the next four years I was working to get a corporate job with a cellphone and a company cars. I seen a lot of the computer technicians come in the office and have their computer and phone and was dressed real nicely.
I started as a help desk tech for a few years then went on the more third-level jobs, but I quickly found myself out of a job and looking for the next project to work at. Each contract I had would start sending my job overseas and replacing us with those that were less expensive.
The point I decided that I wanted to have the freedom to work for myself and control my time and income and stop jumping around to different contracts every six months.
I found my lovely wife when I visited Atlanta in 2012 and she had allows me to see what Memphis didn’t have which was opportunities.
I have connected with so many black professionals during my visit that I got introduced to the Tax industry.
My first mind said NO, I don’t know anything about Taxes or do I know about my own finances to fix someone else.
Thanks to that same mentor, I was encouraged to see what was all about. At that point, I learn that the tax industry is how many people are making high income and only working a few months out of the year.
That was all I needed to hear to know that I wanted to do whatever it took to be successful.
My first year, I didn’t know what I was doing but was so coachable that I did what I was encouraged to do and made my first 10k.
My second year, I have a team of 30 agents and two offices, one in Atlanta and one in Memphis, TN. We made over 100k that year.
Today we have a company is a full services tax and business firm that focus on helping business owner with Tax Planning, Tax Resolutions, CFO, Business Credit, Business Formation, and Funding Services.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
NO, it has not been smooth. I remember that I had no money and no way to get clients but I asked friends and family to help me buy marketing material.
I had a flip phone trying to text clients my location.
I had people laugh at me for handing out business cards and flyers at the local supermarkets.
I also had agent to take my clients after I helped them get them.
It has all been a learning experience and I would not trade it for the world.
