Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Battle.
Hi Daniel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing bass in early high school after hearing and seeing it in church, I knew I wanted to be a musician. Early college, I challenged myself to make 30 min beat/instrumental after seeing a virgin records documentary and hearing that Michael Olfield made tubular bells, which is a 30 min instrumental. A close friend doubted I could do it and that made me want to prove him wrong. That beat I made ended up only being 8 mins but I enjoyed the process so much I kept at it and began making beats all day in college and eventually dropped out. I finally got my skills up and decided to put a compilation mixtape together of a lot of local artists around me over my production. It’s called “TrapDan & Friends”. After that, I began my artist career and my close friend Shotty became a producer along with me. We’ve dropped several singles and put out two self-produced projects for our collective “The Loop Group”. Joe College shares a lot of our values so us linking was natural. Over 2021 we locked in and created the “John Blaze” album, with the goal of showing off our taste and range in music-making and production.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth but I expected that and I appreciate all that comes with what I do. The greatest struggle is breaking through and we’re still figuring out how to do that. Nonetheless, I’m here for long game and I’m excited to figure out how to beat these challenges cause I’m gonna celebrate it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a multi-instrumentalist, artist, producer, engineer and any other role you can think of that’s involved in music-making. I’m a gorgeous Jack of all trades. What sets me apart is my range in record-making. My ability to mimic what I’ve heard and recreate it and my forward-thinking in my process. I like new-sounding shit and I love old-sounding shit. I try my best to bring all I can do to a record. I have taste and I like expanding my taste and showing it.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My authenticity. My confidence. My ability to adapt.
