Laureen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A little sparkle about me! Hi! I am Laureen. Laureen Knight – also known as Laureen K- the Venue Fashionista! An entrepreneur at heart! Female hustler by trade. Well known amongst family and friends as the go to person for many things- especially the entertainment sector.
Born in Atlanta and raised in the DMV- I bring a perfect mix of “flavor” to anything I do: especially 22Eight Event Suite!
I have been hosting events/trips since high school, so this is second nature.
The love of my life is my Husband- well known around Atlanta as DJ June. With our blended family we have five children plus Teddy – our Yorkie!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! I started the journey of opening a venue early 2021. I just dove in and didn’t really know all the logistics. Thought you find a space-make sure it is what you need or have it built out and start the business. However, when I started to inquire about the type of business I was going to open, various landlords- always said “No, we are not interested!” or “it’s not zoned for that.” At that moment, I started doing research. I joined a Facebook group to assist me with understanding the steps necessary. I gave up a few times too! I wasn’t sure where I wanted to set up my venue-as in location-so it made my search frustrating. Then, once I found a space, did it accommodate my vision and what was needed to be successful? Often, the answer was no until I found my diamond gem and made a home for 22Eight Event Suite!
Overall, I love a challenge and I work best under pressure, so I used my frustration and determination to conquer any obstacles that came forth. That steadfast grind birth my vision and venue ownership.
We’ve been impressed with 22Eight Event Suite, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
22Eight Event Suite is a premier intimate luxury venue that does everything from event concept and design to event coordination and decor rentals. Our new venue is a 1,560 square foot canvas just waiting for you to paint all you can imagine for a fabulous wedding reception, baby shower, birthday, pop-up shops or anytime celebration. Our motto is “Simply…”WOW” because when you walk in the door to all-white draped walls with uplighting and a contemporary, sheek, and modern feel – one has no choice but to say simply….”Wow!”
22Eight Event Suite is set apart from others because of the options we offer that is inclusive to the venue when rented. We offer three venue looks that make it simple to host an event with minimal effort or decor if one desires. Banquet/Dinner party, Lounge/Mixer or Reception. In addition, we took out the stress off the consumer who wanted an upscale event without paying high rental fees to obtain it. This is accomplished by including the options with the venue rental for a reasonable price.
What makes you happy?
This venue has been a dream come true. Something about sharing your special day that brings me so much JOY! It makes me happy to be apart and to watch others have a good time and enjoy themselves. I have been hosting parties and events for a long time and to see the overall outcome & successes is something I can’t even explain!
