Conversations with Sam Bybee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Bybee.

Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an Acoustic/Americana/Pop artist based out of ATL. I have over 20 years of experience playing music with endorsements from Taylor Guitars and Gigtown, I have been lucky enough to make it my full-time job with expansive experience playing multiple music and art festivals, restaurants, bars, corporate and private events.
I have an album coming out in some time between April-June called I Am Not Here. Inspired by both the idea that to grow as a person, you must become comfortable with idea of destroying the idea of who you are coupled isolation of 2020. Look out for that where ever music streaming and sold.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I know this bio sounds all roses and candy (because editing) but being an artists is 10 percent glamour and 90 percent sheer will, especially if that’s all one does. A very lucky few actually go onto bright lights and gold castles, the vast majority of us are just lucky to even call it a job. For that, I am eternally grateful. We do this cause we love it, I know I do this because I love it. So if your reading this, please the next time you see a musician on the street or in the corner of a bar/restaurant clap a little louder, send a little more love their way, be a little nicer =). Ok rant over.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I don’t know if I specialize in any ONE thing, mostly just love being around and a part of music in all its forms. I’ve written and recorded over seven albums as a solo artist and as a part of 22 Kings, one of which was produced by Alex Wong, producer of Delta Rae’s “Carry the Fire.” I have been lucky enough to tour this wonderful country four plus times that had included stops at Oysterfest, SXSW and NAMM, among many others. As a young kid, I took to the piano playing by ear and making my way through songs with one note at a time, as I grew up the instrument changed but the method was very much the same. All that is to say that I don’t read music nor have I had any formal training, it was all ear and grit. And open mics, so many open mics. SHOUT OUT TO OPEN MICS, they are so essential for local artists learning to grow. Which leads me to a good point.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?

I will never forget my friend’s dad growing up when he saw me playing a small show at some bar in the middle of nowhere he asked me why why I would do it, after knowing the MOUNTAIN of evidence that says I should not. I had no good answer so I just played on the road again by Willy Nelson and dedicated to him. So, insanity? Or stubbornness, maybe a bit of both.
