Today we’d like to introduce you to Lima Roe.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised on St. Croix US Virgin Islands. From the y0ung age of eight, I started competing in pageants. This is where I developed my passion for being on stage. I’ve competed in a total of 9 pageants. While in high school, I would find myself remixing songs in the school cafeteria with my cousins. My cousins then started their own rap group and being that I would always be around them, I just naturally started getting involved. However, it wasn’t until about three years ago I decided to take it serious. I got to where I am today because of my self-determination and motivation I have instilled within me. I feel like where I’m from, is it very rare for artists to make it far in the music industry being that we don’t really have the resources back in the islands. I feel like it is my job to help showcase the talent that we have back home in the VI. My dream is to be the first artist out of the VI to make it Mainstream in music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
IT has definitely not been a smooth road for me. There has been many times I felt like giving up. Last year I left my home to pursue my music career and work with some people in the industry and I must say it was quite an experience. I was in rooms with artists like Migos. Jacques, Tory Lanz, etc. I felt like coming from where I came from, being raised with different morals and values, I may have been misunderstood and overlooked because of my humbleness. But that is a long story that we can probably talk ab0ut one day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a rapper from the Virgin Islands. I am known for rapping in a way that you would not know that I spent most of my life living in the islands. You wouldn’t even hear my accent when I’m rapping and that is not common for people from the islands trying to rap. I am most proud of how far I have came doing it all on my own with the help of a few people. The one thing that sets me apart from 0ther is my sound.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
When you wake up every morning and create your day exactly how you dream it to be, that is success! My advice to anyone who is just starting out or unsure about pursuing their dreams would be to block out the noise, even if that means cutting off “friends” and “family”. You get one life to turn your dreams into reality, so it is important to protect your peace and a large part of that comes down to reevaluating the people you allow into your circle. Lastly, when you are pursuing your dreams, make sure that they are in alignment with your purpose and passion.
