Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Davis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So, I started off collaborating with creatives in my earlier years. Starting off in Girl Scouts in Chattanooga, I learned the importance of networking, being creative and staying authentic to myself. This continued through high school where I became a part of Student Government, networking with other students from different schools, school board activities, school events and so on. Once I got to college at Middle Tennessee State University I knew this was my biggest networking platform and I knew what had to be done. I quickly became involved with a lot of music-influenced organizations like MTSU’s Gospel Choir, Urban Entertainment and Match Records, which lead to me switch my major sophomore year to Music Business. From here, I was constantly surrounded by new thriving artists and creatives looking to make steps in the music industry and I wanted to be a part of every step. I managed a few artists in college that didn’t work out but it sparked my passion for educating artists and creatives on the business side of things. After college, I teamed up with a classmate and friend and started an Arts & Entertainment company where we gave artists and creatives a safe space to put their talents to the test collaborating on events, shows, and projects. Working with a multitude of talented artists from Tennessee to Pennsylvania really sparked my passion for artist management which then turned into Creative Minds Artist Management in 2017. Creative Minds is a safe space for artists, creatives and brands to be 100% authentic.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This road has not been smooth at all. Working with people takes a lot of courage and you have to be a special kind of person. When working with creatives, there are always different personalities and opinions that may not always align with yours. I pride myself on being charismatic and being a lifelong learner. With that, you may have to agree to disagree with others at times. But, even through those challenges, my biggest obstacle is myself. Being an entrepreneur is very difficult, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I consistently battle with myself and my personal expectations, deadlines, working a full-time job, being a good friend and family member, and the list could honestly go on and on. Through all of this, the most important thing I’ve learned on this journey has been to pour back into my own cup. When I am filled and fueled by my purpose, my creative mind is open to limitless possibilities.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My official title is CEO of Creative Minds Artist Management but my specialty is management. I currently manage two hip-hop artists from Tennessee; Caprice, from Nashville and Zan Dretti, from Chattanooga. I also manage and I am 1/3 of Three’s Tea Podcast with my girls Miranda Dunn and Jade Griffin. My own personal wellness brand, The Pink Hippie( follow @Withlove_a_ for updates) is also managed through Creative Minds where I consistently work with local brands on collabs and creative directing, ambassadorship programs, events and so much more to come. I am so very proud of my brand, Creative Minds because I took a passion and turned it into a part of my life. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come but it also fuels me on how much more work I have to do. I will be honest, over the years, it has been so fulfilling when I walk in rooms or events and I hear people talk about CM and they have no clue I’m the CEO, sometimes I even play along. What sets Creative Minds apart from others is that we have created a table for all creatives to sit at, cultivate their craft and feel proud of their work and the collaboration. There is enough room at this table for whoever is passionate and ready to tap into their creative mind.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I definitely wouldn’t say good luck or bad luck has played a part in my life and business. I will however say life lessons and favor has played a major part in my life. I’ve learned a lot of lessons in this game called life which have affected my business. I was taught early on to treat people how you want to be treated and what you dish out is what you get back. This has stood to be true in my life. Now, favor, that’s nothing but God. I have been blessed to meet so many people from different walks of life, I’ve been in some rooms that have plugged me into resources that I never could have imagined. Daily, I try to keep my moral compass strong, my passion for creativity high, and a big smile on my face. This mindset has got me this far, so I might as well stick to it.
