Check Out Cathy Webb’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Webb.

Hi Cathy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story began at the age of 12, when I was told I had Alopecia and would experience hair loss. Over the next several decades, I experienced rounds of bald patches. While in college, I experienced no issues. Two years post-graduation, once again I was dealing with hair loss. This time it was complete loss with zero regrowth. For the next 16 years, I wore wigs. as I felt completely embarrassed by and ashamed of my appearance. I allowed it to keep me from opportunities and relationships that could have played a major role in my life or influenced me in positive ways. In 2013, I was challenged to spend time outside without my wig. Little did I know that would be the start of my journey of self-acceptance,-love, and- confidence. This newfound love of the person in the mirror was the foundation for me writing and publishing books on personal development for women, men, and couples. To expand on this, I am planning to host several in-person events later in the year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
A smooth ride? What is that? Nothing in life happens smoothly. There were (and still are on occasion) struggles financially and emotionally, as well as logistically. Building anything requires a strong foundation and assistance from others. I had very little of both. Flying solo or with little help is never the best option but whatever you do have, you press forward with it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work consists of writing literary pieces aimed at uplifting the female mindset, uncovering her self-love, and bolstering her self-confidence. With all of these in tact, she is better equipped to move her life forward in a more positive manner. Thus far, I have written six books for women, one for men, and one for couples. Each one focuses on a specific topic and includes advice and personal insight from my life. They offer a starting point for individuals to begin their personal journey or for couples to grow closer emotionally and physically. I am most proud of being able to connect with the reader through our shared highs and lows in life. We all can say we are confident but our actions will speak for us. Living (and loving) life as a bald Black woman is how I express mine and set myself apart. This new year also saw me use my confidence to step into the entertainment industry as a model and actress. These endeavors would not have been possible had I remained within my comfort zone.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up the way I did was challenging but I was taught to love, accept, and appreciate what you had. At times, this was difficult. I dealt with life by reading whatever books I could get my hands on or using my imagination when playing outside. I was never one to get into (too much) trouble. Instead, I kept to myself. Perhaps it was because I had few friends or I was dealing with hair loss. I was also a child who liked to keep things clean and neat. While my siblings were watching TV, I would be cleaning up with my mom. My love of reading and cleanliness continues today!
