Rising Stars: Meet Miani Rivers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miani Rivers.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am the owner and creator of ScrubBaePins, I was first inspired to start my business during the pandemic due to us being confined to our homes for some time, I finally had the time to actually sit and do research on “How to start an enamel pin business” I originally ordered a couple of pins off Alibaba, but then later thought I need to be more creative more original I got inspired by a couple of creators on Instagram who have their own enamel pin business that they personally created I thought to myself if they can do it so can I, after four months of brainstorming, saving and implementing things in place to have a successful business such as securing my LLC as well as my trademark. January 1st, 2021 at 12:00pm, ScrubBaePins launched!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having a business is never a smooth road! I’m sure all creators can relate, you can have a month where you make $1000.00 or a month where you make $0. Some struggles I learned along the way is that you have to be 100% percent original when it comes to creating your craft, especially in the small business world. When I first started my brand, I got inspired by one of my favorite nurse creators and our pins resembled each other. I thought if I used her technique as far as creating a blue mask pin and putting my own slogan on it, it would not be a big deal. We see things like that happen 24/7 ex the peloton bike was founded in 2012, since then there have been many remakes of the bike. After about a month or so after talking to my lawyer and being ethical as well as my Instagram getting deleted over the matter I came to the conclusion that I was wrong and apologized to her. My advice to business owners everywhere is just to be original and study the ins and outs of being a business creator.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create health care inspired enamel pins for all health professions! You can look up my brand by going to www.ScrubBaePins.com or searching ScrubBaePins, on Instagram! Here I have pins for health professions like occupational therapists, women and infant service workers, students studying any kind of health profession, etc. I am most proud of building my business from the ground up and constantly looking for ways to be innovative and creative. What sets me apart from all other business is that I hand draw all of my pins and I am catering to all health professions not just focusing on one. To healthcare workers everywhere, thank you! Also, if you live in or plan on visiting the Washington DC area anytime soon, I will be launching my second business soon “NailogyByMiani” my studio will be located in Upper Marlboro MD, I plan on doing natural gel nails only with super creative and unique designs catering to all!

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy would be spending time with family and friends because life is so precious and I don’t like to take anything for granted, my dog Zen (my pandemic puppy!) Lol and getting notifications that someone has purchased a product from me, that feeling will never get old.
