Life & Work with Dr. Curtis D. Jasper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Curtis D. Jasper.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from Chicago and have resided in Atlanta for the last 22 years. I’m a father, grandfather, community activist, and lover of books, nature, and great coffee.

My professional career originally started as a public school educator/assistant principal/principal. I later became a psychologist as a result of going through therapy. I currently serve as a therapist, a Mental Health Consultant, and a community and social psychologist working with individuals, families, learning institutions, nonprofit organizations, and large corporations. I’m a 6x published author as well as a public speaker. I recently did a Tedx talk, as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, life is great but it hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve experienced lots of challenges both losses and mostly wins. Although my educational career was deliberate. My second career, as a psychologist, sort of found me. One of my favorite sayings and public opening statements is that “I became a therapist in therapy.” In short, from around late 2008 until late 2014, I experienced quite a few challenges ranging from divorce, deaths, debt, incarceration, homelessness, grief, depression, and much much more. I’m happy to be able to say all of that is behind me and I now have the honor and privilege to assist individuals, couples, and families with their own mental health, emotional wellness, and personal development healing journeys. Life is great now and I absolutely have no complaints!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently serve as a Community & Social Psychologist, consultant, lecturer, and public speaker. My specialized training and expertise utilize a unique blend of psycho-educational, psycho-social, and psycho-emotional healing modalities. My primary client base is made up of mostly Black men and Black males. I unapologetically tackle the unique experiences of racism, what it means to be a Black Man in this world today and how that greatly impacts Black Mental Health. I’m known for my firm but loving approach to helping individuals heal. I’ve been known to be very ‘confronting’ without being ‘confrontational’. My previous lived experiences, which I didn’t understand at first, continue to lead and serve me and my clients well. I’m most proud of my own personal development and my own mental health and emotional wellness healing journey, my children, my grandchildren, and my health.

What are your plans for the future?
My future plans are to remain as present as possible, enjoy the journey, look to serve and reach more people who can benefit from who I am, my services, messages, and expertise. I’d like to do more traveling real soon. Oh, and I have a new book coming out entitled There Are No Problems-Only SOULutions! It’s due out April 2022.
