Meet Christian Limon Nunez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Limon Nunez.

Hi Christian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Life-long artist, experienced curator, and founder of Kuali Studio Gallery, LLC. I’ve curated ten exhibitions since 2019. I love innovation, collaboration, and organizing new collections. In March 2022, my art studio moved to a larger facility in Lawrenceville, GA where I am dedicating more time to completing a new series of paintings and have also added studio space for film & photography.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As Curator: It is essential that I provide a robust outlet for creative expression for established artists, as well as under-represented artists who are in a pivotal stage of their career through the alignment of resources. In 2019, I began building the working art studio and retail gallery platform known as Kuali Studio Gallery where my skills in arts administration and event / exhibition management were cultivated.

As Painter: Emphasis on the visceral and sublime nature of color, abstract expression with selective restraint. The new artworks being developed give the viewer new information and new energy without having to take in an overtly figurative composition. For over a decade, mixed media paint and collage combinations have been the core of my practice. In 2020, I began a transfiguration of my previous techniques and initiated “painting meditations” to create resonant abstract color fields on 5 x 6 ft. stretched canvas – larger than my previous paintings. The larger scale, omission of the figurative, and fresh focus of splatters and strokes done in a high-chroma minimalist color palette produces radiant artwork which arouses emotion in the viewer. A deep color field is developed through dynamic layering of gouache, acrylic, oil and metallic paints. The painting process and the resulting artwork evoke feelings of harmony and pleasant memories.

My inspirations include KAWS, KingPop, Allyson Grey, Alex Grey, and Krista Kim (founder of Techism Art Movement). All of them are at the forefront of color technique and expression. As well, I am influenced by the late great painters Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t give up 60 seconds from the finish line. Also, the finish line is always moving.
