Today we’d like to introduce you to Alistar.
Hi Alistar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Chicago, Illinois in 2001. At two months old, I was brought to Seattle to soon be primary raised by my single mother from parents filing for divorce. Though I was raised as an only child with parents no longer together, my mom being a dancer and my dad being a multi-talented writer and poet, together, had influenced my creative journey. By my late teens, I moved to Los Angeles, CA on my own for college until dropping out to pursue my dreams as a creative genius only three weeks into the school year. Fearful of what’s next, my new LA friends invited me to live in their content house where I transitioned from being a dancer to bringing my talents on Social Media where I amassed a TikTok following of 660k.
As time went on, the content house fell apart, leaving my friends and I stranded to the streets, moving from one couch to the next. Soon after, Covid-19 took wind, and just four days after my birthday that I spent alone my grandpa passed away who was the closest person to a best friend that I had. As I mourned for the loss of my grandpa, I moved back to Seattle to stay with my mom and grandma, with no ambition to continue the dreams that made me happy.
Stuck in a never ending hole, I discovered a video of Steve Harvey where he speaks about being homeless in his car for three years, then miraculous received a call that led to him being where he is today. Meanwhile, my grandma shared a book with me that my grandpa read, titled “How to Win Friends & Influence People”, which aligned with the life I wanted.
With my newly ambitious path to grow, I took my love for music a shot by spending countless hours scrolling through YouTube beats to create a song I could sing on. At that moment, I knew I had to go back to LA because I wanted to make my grandpa proud.
Reunited with my passions living in LA once again, I studied the music business and wrote song after song to fuel my new passion, including my new release, “You & Me”.
My inspiration for my business & lyrical style derived from my favorite artists such as Gunna, Kanye, Lil Mosey, & Lunay. My love for their different styles is what has influenced my own sound through my music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Before setting off on my career to become the Artist I am today, growing up, I was introverted and insecure about my self-worth. Whether it was school or my personal life, there was always a shyness to me that kept me from living life like the rest of the kids. I felt out of place as a kid that lacked acceptance. With my pride diminished, I spent countless hours in my bedroom alone learning everything from graphic skills on photoshop to imagineering the disneyfication of my future endeavors. Today, I design my own song covers and create the majority of the illustrations that make up my work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For work, I primarily focus on my music career in which recently, I have released my new single on all platforms titled “You & Me”. The single showcases my versatility as I reveal a unique Latin-Pop flow and raw melodic hook. Aside from the music, I have a love for Hip-Hop dancing, modeling, acting, graphic design, and playing the piano to name a few of my creative outlets.
Before diving into the deep end of the music industry, I was most commonly known for being a content creator, where I posted dancing and entertaining videos on both Instagram and TikTok. Through social media and indulging in the creator lifestyle, I learned many life lessons. One of those being that talent without hard work is nothing.
Today, I am most proud of the position I stand at in life. From what felt like the world caving in on me to now fulfilling my purpose as a music artist, my career is in motion with the intent of inspiring others like the little boy who yearned for acceptance.
Not only did I come from nothing to being where I am now, my sincerity and ambition to positively rewrite the narrative in society today has greatly set me apart from the rest.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Before moving to Los Angeles, CA, I networked with other influencers by doing “networking dm sprees”; where I dm’d a genuine message to every influencer Instagram page I came across. Whether they had 1k followers or 10 million followers, the response rate from the sincere dm’s worked miraculously!
Another networking approach I took was by attending “Influencer Parties” in LA. Through becoming friends with creators online, I’d get invited to big house parties that a lot of largely followed influencers attended. Though Starstruck by some, I introduced myself to the creators with respect and appreciation, leading to some sharing their contact! When it comes to networking with anyone, whether it’s your favorite artist or the janitor at your work, the key is to show them respect, as we are all people with our own story at the end of the day.
