Meet Matthew Bryant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Bryant.

Hi Matthew, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started acting in 2018. At first, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. But when I got into my first Theater class in high school, my course of life changed. I was bullied a lot in high school. Those were the roughest days of my life. Then acting gave me the opportunity to release all those emotions that I was feeling when somebody came up to me calling me a bad name. I got my first theater role. I played Uncle Phil from fresh prince of Belair. It was so much fun I wish I can go back in time and do it all over again. After that, in 2019 I played the lion in the Wizard of Oz. It was a whole different case scenario in the play. It was for a Christmas program. Then the pandemic came around. Everything we shut down. I couldn’t act. I couldn’t do anything. I was in a very dark place. Instead of getting frustrated over the pandemic, I saw it as a solution. To reflect on how far I’ve come. I had a chance to let go of some relationships and people who told me my dream as an actor was inevitable. And it felt so good to say goodbye to those relationships. Because every time I tried to hold on or fix those relationships, The more drain I got. Now until this day, I am staying true to myself on my career as an actor.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Relationships. I said it because I had a lot of toxic things come into my life. Especially with the industry, I am in. It was very hard for me to let go of those relationships. But once I started taking my power back, I started to feel a whole lot happier and stronger. My grandma always says this. “you can’t take everybody with you”.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Acting! What I’m mostly proud of is calling myself an actor. I’m proud of stepping into my craft and stepping into my gift that God gave me. What makes me different from others is positivity. I like to spread a lot of that. Because I don’t like to see people sad. And the love you cannot forget about love. The world needs a lot more low.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see myself acting until I’m 50. And encouraging other artists to go after their dreams.
