Hidden Gems: Meet Patricia Pickett of Off The Chain Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Pickett. Them and their team share their story with us below:

October 2002, Orlandez and Patricia Pickett combined their 20 years of experience in dance, modeling and their work within the music/fashion industry to launch Off The Chain Management, LLC (OTCM). This couple gained notoriety through their programs, services and events which led to the creation of the company’s name, Off The Chain Management. “Off the chain” is an urban term meaning the best or greatest.

OTCM mission is to help others reach their dreams of becoming successful in the entertainment business. OTCM has gained the utmost credibility through their successful programs, contracted services and events. OTCM takes every job booking seriously and pleasing their clients is definitely a priority. With The Pickett’s experience and extensive resume, they have a team of professionals that work closely together to guarantee each booking yields successful outcomes. The power couple has been married 20 years and have two beautiful children, Akaila and Dezmond Pickett.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You can always to expect to hit a bump in the road in life. In entertainment, my struggle was in the beginning of my career. Straight out of high school, I pursued runway/print modeling and I was a professional background dancer. The struggle came when I had no representation like a booking agent or manager to negotiate opportunities/bookings on my behalf. Managing yourself can easily put a you in situations where clients take advantage of you.
Such as, promoters not paying at end of a promo booking, photographers making you feel uncomfortable on a photoshoot, not being allowed to book same opportunities as other talent because of the color of your skin, people in power making promises they didn’t keep, and the list goes on.

It was in that moment that GOD spoke to me telling me that it’s time to work behind the scenes and help other talents reach their goals. GOD told me that if my husband and I take all the bad things that people did to us in the entertainment industry and did right by other people; we would be successful.

Till this day, I know that’s why GOD continues to bless us; because we do right by our clients & ultimate is always to overdeliver when clients booked us for work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Off The Chain Management, LLC?
Off The Chain Management specializes in business consulting, event planning, production/backstage management and celebrity talent bookings.

We are known for our professionalism in the entertainment industry, being a company you can count on to get the job done on every booking/opportunity we acquire.

We are proud of every opportunity GOD allows us to book and the many everyday people, clients, and entertainers he has allows us to work with.

What sets us apart from others is our track record. We are spiritually, mentally and physically invested in every job we are booked for. Our goal for every opportunity is to leave an unforgettable impression with every client.

I want to include what many people may not know about me. I am a graduate of University Of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology and a Minor in Criminal Justice. I am currently Program Manager for a substance abuse in Georgia and we specializes in treating opiate addiction. Many people can’t believe I have a regular job and that I also work in entertainment. To maintain both are truly a blessing. I get to live out my dreams of saving lives as well as continuing to work in the entertainment industry.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Keep GOD 1st. We work for GOD, not for ourselves or other people. With that mindset you will give your all on every opportunity. Dream Big! Write out attainable goals and speak daily affirmations over your life. Have confidence in yourself and speak your success into existence.

Be open to healthy competition, honest criticism, and more then anything be a blessing to someone else.

I wish I would have understood the true definition of loyalty in the entertainment industry when I first started. Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Carl Thomas taught me that loyalty should only be expected from your immediate family. Anybody outside of immediate family don’t really owe you anything. So when working in entertainment, know that you can be cut out of deals you created, people will use you, people will envy you, and even try and tear you down but never let it leave you shocked, appalled or even get you out of your character.

Carl also taught me that many people who you may have problems with may not even know that there is a problem. Communication is everything. If you have an issue with anyone, address it and don’t let it fester over time. Address issues you have with others right then and there which in turn could save many working relationships and or show you where you stand so you can make a decision to move on.

Lastly, my husband, Dez and I have worked together in entertainment over 20 years. We are often called a “Power Couple” because we are in business together and survived this long. I encourage all entrepreneurs to go into business with someone they can trust and always have each other’s back and never let anyone come between what you have built together. Our VP, Gena Body has been with us over 15 years. Her loyalty is unmatched and she is our Day 1! I said all that to say, build a trustworthy team when launching your business.
